FINALLY!! Woohoo....
It'll probably run around $40 bucks, but it's worth it. Just make sure to get a K&N cleaning kit too...and you'll never have to replace the filter...just clean it every oil change.
I can't remember the hp increase specs, but it does increase the air flow greatly over the stock diaper!

Every oil change?
I thought they had to be cleaned like, once every 20,000 miles, or as needed.
I know I didnt have to clean the one in my cavalier for like 23,000 miles. As I drove mostly on the highway, it just never got that dirty.

If I remember right, I had one on my old SHO, I believe K&N recommended cleaning it every oil change...just to get a fresh coat of oil on the filter and keep it working best.
I can't remember if I got that from the cleaning kit manual or not? oops..guess not...K&N recommends every 30k miles. I guess I just like to have it clean. It won't hurt it, just be careful and don't over oil it....lot's of people do that by mistake.

Just, along these lines, the CAI for what its worth to anyone, felt to me more like the stock intake. I have gotten the most out of the SRI set up.
And while the power increase may not be that big, I can feel a huge differance in acceleration, especially above 2500 RPM's.
But if anyone does the drop in filter, I wouldnt expect a big differance at all.
Most noticible differance will be in the money you save on paper filters!

Drop in filters don't give ya' that much of a difference. It's all those stupid 90 degree bends in the stock intake system that kill your airflow. The shorter and straighter the intake tube, the better the airflow, the more HP gained. Thus is why the Short Ram Intakes are generating more power than the "cold air" setups.
Now if you're gonna leave your intake system stock, and don't want to worry about ever changing your filter again I say go with the K&N drop in. The instructions say you should check it at every oil change and service it every 20,000 miles or when it gets really dirty. I had a K&N FIPK in my 01 Ranger for 30,000 miles and only cleaned it once. The K&N filters will still flow just as much air, and will actually filter better if they are dirty. Cleaning the filter and re-oiling it every 3k miles is a big waste of money. The cleaning kits aren't cheap and the puropse of a K&N drop-in is to save you money on replacements.

The cleaning kits at Autozone are about 10 bucks, and I had bought one and used it a half dozen times and still there is about 1/2 of it left, so it's not that expensive.
The reason I had cleaned mine so often was that on my old SHO I had removed the silencer cone, which ran into the fender well from the intake box. Thus the intake run was about 1/2" from the fender into the air box so it would get dirty quick...

Well, they waited two weeks too long. Now that I've heard about the new "dry" performance, reusable filters from Amsoil ( Ea filter ), and AEM ( DryFlow ) I want to wait for that. Though I may have to go with K&N if those other companies don't come out with a dry one that will fit the 2.2 Cobalt by New Years.

Yeah, I picked mine up from www.4filters.com for 42.19 and no shipping charges. Along with a silencer removal the K&N will not nessicarly give you much horse power but what it does give you is a quicker throttle response and it also helps with fuel economy. This is a must for those people out there who are waiting to get a FI setup before they drop money on an intake!

So, I got my drop in K and N filter in and i have the modified air box and all I can say is that there is noticeable difference in throttle response, acceleration, and sound. This is my temp intake ofcourse because i am waiting to do a good FI setup down the road when i have money.
