2.4 Intake Manifold/TB Questions

I have a 2.2l L61 Cobalt. 2008.

Everything i read about swapping the Intake manifold and TB says that no one knows what happens when you swap it to an 08, its all 05-07 bs.

So my quick question is does the 2.4l manifold/tb add much to a 08 2.2l?

according to this
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...t-W67C144.aspx

"Tested on 05-07 Cobalts, the 08 Cobalt uses a different intake manifold and has yet to be tested."

So its been like 2 years and they still dont know...do you know .net?

Search harder, there's a thread about 08+ 2.2L's actually having the 2.4L IM stock.. not sure if its true though

I have the 08 cobalt ls and it bolts up fine and add quite a sufficient amount of hp depending on the mods you currently have on the car. You will probably lose low end tq but you will feel a gain in the top end.

08+ did upgrade from a 2 piece intake mani to a 1 piece. that does not however mean that 08+ got the 2.4 mani stock, just a similar style.

fly has an 08 and says it makes a diff.

go for it.

I thought the 08's were the LAP and not the L61?

No tune needed for an intake manifold, only for the throttle body. I was beginning to make my mod list of what im going to be doing to my ls and i would like to know if anyone here has Swapped thier intake manifold over that owns a 08 LS. I dont want to go droppin 250 bucks on something thats not going to give me any gains.

2.4 Intake Manifold
2.4 Throttle Body
GMPP Air Intake Kit
GMPP Extruded Honed Manifold
GMPP Touring Exhaust
Trifecta Tune
Eibach Pro Kit

He's looking at the 2.4 intake mani "kit" from CED that's $255 I think. I don't think you need all that, just the manifold and maybe brake booster hose?

A tune is about $250 all by itself.

dont buy that ced kit its to exp do what i did and buy it from zzp then order the crank seal gasket from gmparts then buy a 5 dollars hose for your brake booster. it's almost 50 bucks cheaper, i think it's worth it.

So I have been reading into this and wanted to ask:
I would need this ZZP kit:
http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...1088&catid=174

As well as a crank seal gasket and a cheap hose and that's it?

Will my TB fit this or should I order a bigger one of those also and where is the best place for that?

Your TB is fine, but you can upgrade to the 2.4 TB...IF YOU DO THAT YOU MUST MAKE SURE YOU GET TUNED OR YOU WILL GO INTO LIMP MODE.

Sorry for the caps...wanted to make sure you read the post.

This is a mod that is for the higher RPM range and you lose some low end power. It IS NOT a mod that will give you a boost in MPG's.

Is there much of a difference in HP between the stock TB on a 2.2 and changing it to the 2.4 one if both have the 2.4 IM?

not really....plus having to be tuned really adds to the cost of the 2.4 TB. throttle response will be the one real gain out of it.

There's other people who have said the 2.4 tb on our little 2.2 losings air velocity since we have a smaller engine. Loss of pressure, while you gain throttle body response, you will not gain any hp or torque, and low end may even lose out.

i find the 2.4 intake manifold is also not the greatest mod either, the loss of low end requires you to have a higher rpm while just driving around down... but then again i find it gives a smoother ride too. it just seems you should only do an I/M if you've done the rest of stuff, i wouldn't put one on unless i was doing a stage 1 cams, otherwise i'm fine at shifting at 5500 rpms and not blowing my engine just to get a few extra ponies.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to do either. I'm tired of not having the loud exhaust and have to save up for that. Haha.

Not worth it unless your boosting and need one.. Plus metal heat soaks.. Plastic doesn't near as much.

I have the 2.4 TB and IM and i love it. Although there was no way to tell gains/losses with the throttle body individually because of the tune, I do feel it was an improvement.. There is a loss in low end TQ but the gains on the top end are VERY worth it.

I recommend this mod to any fully bolted & tuned 2.2
