2009 2.2
2009 2.2
So they add vvt to the 2009 cobalts? is it good for performance tuning, or more for fuel economy or both? i heard its making around 155? A buddy of mine is looking into a new car in this price range so wondering on the differences.
not to mention vvt seems to make cars sound alit better.. the 1.8 L vvt astra sounds better then the 2.2 L ion/ cobalt lol
but yes it's for both fuel as well as power.. there's a reason the 2.4 gets more hp aside from the bore increase higher compression and 35 MPG.. it helps out alot

You'll definitely notice big gains on the top of the RPM. Works the same as honda's VTEC you definitely know when it kicks in. Now if they came out with a way to control it with an SAFC like the VTEC so that you could set it to kick in earlier then you'd really notice a difference.

2.4L: Bore 88mm, Stroke 98mm
Other advantages: 68mm TB, larger intake and exhaust (SS version), VVT -- this is not like Honda VTEC -- each cam moves up to 60 degrees negative and 60 degrees positive -- they are in constant motion depending on engine needs and do not "kick-in"; bigger exhaust.
2.2L: Bore 86mm Stroke 94.6mm
Other items: 60mm TB -- '09 VVT.

The LE5 has a different bore and stroke than the L61/LAP/LE8
Honestly take a bnch of pictures so we can see what looks different. We can't give a good answer without someone trying.
Headers are the same, if youve got NU3 youll have the same issues as all 2006-up Balts with SAIR
Intake manifold on the LAP is the same as on the 08-09 LE5(07 LE5 design uses bigger runners, will work on your car)
Theres no truly noteworthy changes to the car that would affect what mods you can make in relation to other 2nd gen L61 or LE5 powered cars., remember the car is on its death bed, they arent gonna spend a boat load of money on it. The new 2.2 LAP is just an L61 with an LE5 head.
