Don't let these guys get you down.... if it what your heart desires, and it's what you want then do it. But just keep in the back of your mind of the road ahead, your car to near 400np may be rocky let alone above 400hp. I would really suggest trying for lower like 250-300 first. But make sure when you build that, get parts that will work for both your later build and the current (if possible) this way you will not be spending so much $$

Dam I just had to read the first two pages and its funny how people dnt know what they are talking about.
i'm not a expert but first stock motor is been good to me for 270 hp plus cause i havent dyno the car since i up the boost for over 10 month and it still hasn't blown. a SWAP its a waste of money the l61 is a good strong motor. its sad how most of thew people talk down about the 2.2 when if you want to make 400hp you can. with just rods and pistons a good tune with the right gas. just do your homework and don't listen to half the down talkin people on this thread.

I'll have my intake (injen) by the end of next week... And than Im going to work on a whole new exhaust a mani setup which wont run to bad...Im going to talk to my friend about rods and piston heads, see if I can get a better set for a minimal price....Ill just go from there...thanks or the pep talk guys haha

have you ever had a 200hp car? 300? If you dont have the mechanical skills to maintain or build a vehicle, then you shouldnt be building an agressive motor. Especially with that high of a hp goal, cars break, they break more when you push them past there limits.

or just add stickers. they add hp.

This Is my prime goal, Nice clean Quick cobalt, lol not a race car but a daily driver, that I can eat some srt-4's and Si's, h22, b20,b18's lol makes my day, 250-280hp with a couple good parts will make you a happy cobalt owner.

well automatics rob hp, and if your going to constantly be doing neutral drops your going to eat your transmission up, id invest in a manual transmission first, especially since your going be well under 300hp.

then invest in bolt ons, cai, full exhaust, port and polish intake and heads. But none of this is going to help you unless you get a TUNE afterwards. Then spray 50 shot of nitrous. I think you will be more then happy and atleast keep up with a srt4.

Thats basically the best bang for the buck without doing a full motor build.

^^ I know enough about cars and as I prev stated my friends dad owns a shop...labor is of no price and I can get any manufact part and after market part at a low low low price....My friend will help with the install....Hes been working with his dad for 6 yrs....has rebuilt enough engines and trannies to bang this job of 400hp out....IM GOIN FoR IT!!

Thats why I earlier suggested an engine swap....my guy just did one on a honda with some upgraded sick engine for 800.00 including all parts and labor...so price is not an issue for me....

Help me out here guys haha!!

The way I started was by piecing a turbo kit together. I stated with a wastegate, blow off, and a intercooler. You can start however is more convenient to you just have a goal to achieve and dnt waste your money on useless stuff.

And to tell you the truth im up to like 4000 k but that because i got a new turbo.

I don't catch traction until 3rd gear.
i know someone with a 500+ whp redline and can hook on street tires. it all depends on the driver.

if you want 400 go for it because its your car and no one else. plus ive dropped at least 6k on mine but im going for at least 350hp and doing alot of suspension work for touge racing and time attack but it all depends on what you want to use it for. if you want to go head to head go on craigslist they usually have some cheap cars that you can sup up really quick like my lil bro got a supra for 800 he is waiting on me to drop in his 7mgte with a t04 turbo and he will be keeping up with at least 300-350hp cars

But do you do your own work? Parts are normally not even 1/3 of labor.
