airbox

my girlfriend has a 2.2 cobalt and i was wondering if anyone has done a modification to the piece that sits atop the throttle body. I have seen how to's for the cover and to remove the freaking bong thing but i havent seen anyone do this. has it been done and if so can someone link me to it and if it hasnt someone should. i just want it to sound louder when i drive it but dont want to spend any money cause its just our little economy car.

i can't link it but go to a parts store and get a 90 degree elbow and some other guy on here cut a 93 accord intake and made it work to the stock air box.

In all honesty, prob better off just getting a real intake. Less hassle. Look for a used one on here.

i modded the stock box, not soo much the collector above the throttle body but it added a few mpg and some nice sound... here are pics, theres a how-to called something like "how to mod 2.2" air box" the whole mod costs only $20-25 foro the filter and i'm very impressed.

i recently tried to buy some piping to get ride of he box you're tlking about and make it a CAI but the piping would run about $50 and i wan't sure it would fit right, so for now this is going to have to work until i decide to buy a CAI but there's so damn expensive... also take of the "silencer" if you havn't already, it makes a decent addition to sound

I got my trumpet thing out through the top, but I had to take the headlight out and disconnect one side of the bumper cover. My car is louder now. Injen CAI soon...then it'll be faster, too.

One of the reasons that it cost so much is that if you take care of it and clean it correctly, you never have to buy a replacement. The OEM filers are like $12 so after 4 filters, the K&N pays for itself. Might also gain you 1 HP.
