Best Catalitic converter
Best Catalitic converter
I have a pacesetter header coming and im designing my own down pipe with a cat. I have a bunch of madrel bent stainless steal pipe in my garage. And what i was wondering is what is a good high flow cat.

It doesn't get any better.
BTW, you do know it's illegal to remove/replace the factory catalytic converter unless it's bad or damaged, right?

Oh, really? How much power do you gain over a good aftermarket cat? 5 HP? 10? 15?
Import Tuner magazine tested various aftermarket catalytic converters using a Civic with aftermarket intake, header and cat back exhaust.
The best catalytic converter, per their test, is the Magnaflow ceramic-core catalytic converter. It made 14 HP more than stock.
They also tested a straight pipe. And, yes, it made more HP than the Magnaflow. It made exactly ONE horsepower more. ONE!

Read it for yourself. If you truely believe the polution you generate with a straight pipe is worth ONE horsepower, and that you can actually FEEL one horsepower, then by all means cut it out. Just don't breathe the air when you have the engine running.

Who cares How would some body know if my stock converter went bad or not unless I told them. I know a few mustang owners that have had a cat go bad after 15,000 miles. And BTW I will also have N2O in my car this spring so if they get me for some thing it wont be for a cat

Goodie twoshoes... lol
I would just run a straight pipe all the way back from the down pipe....

However, I guess I feel strongly about maintaining emission controls and still gaining performance. Living in Denver, where the air is brown all summer is different than living where it has less local effect.
I was also quite surprised when I read that article in the magazine, so I went looking for it on-line to share. I plan to use the best high-flow cat from the test, partly because we have California-style emissions testing here, and partly because I believe in it. Odd, I know, for an "old fart," but I guess I'm tired of breathing fumes - except nitro at the drags, of course!
