best performance mods for lowest price
hello everyone,
im a poor teenager who just invested in a '06 cobalt ls 2.2. i wanted to know what the best mods to do on this car would be for the least money (strictly performance, ill worry about style later) im looking to spend somewhere around $500-$750 total and ive been reading up and am wondering if these mods are best or if i should do others instead:
cold air intake
chip for the car (off of ebay, are these a ripoff?)
gm touring exaust
im open to other ideas. hp gains for all options would be appreciated. thanks!

As far as the warranty goes, check out this thread: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/general-cobalt-68/your-rights-about-your-car-warranty-aftermarket-mods-7439/

You can get the injen CAI instead of the GMPP - its cheaper, and you have the ability to go short ram or CAI (they give you the 2 tubes that fit together.
Exhaust is the best mod for a 2.2 - the ecotec responds more to exhaust than to intake. Of course, doing both = great.
As everyone said, STAY AWAY FROM CHIPS ON EBAY. There are no chips or tuning for the 2.2 yet, so everything you see is a ripoff.

don't be stupid, either wait for the warranty to be up, or use gm parts, you def. dont wanna kill your warranty. Stay away from ebay all together, i got parts for my civic, they are shitty, dont do it. you get what you pay for. Make sure you get a k&n filter in your car if are or arent getting CAI, it makes a difference ;-).

My 2.2 loved the mods I did to it. However, there was one(SAFC-II) that you NEED to stay away from. My warranty pretty much got tomahawked on that unless I can do a sly dress up of the spliced wires.

Get it breathing better. without tuning, that is what you can do and keep your warranty.
Oh, and if a dealer voids anypart of your warranty other than for the part you took off of the car (intake or exhaust) then find a new dealer!
Most dealers I suspect though wont put up a fight.
If you want complete peace of mind, go all GMPP.
Cant go wrong that way!
Good luck which ever way you go though!

I got a custom magnaflow exhaust put in for 380. It did NOT void my warranty. Of course I can't get service on the exhaust but thats kinda common sense anyway. Your warranty is only voided on the parts you mod. So I void the warranty on the airbox if I put an intake in, but not the warranty on anyhting else.. understand?

^^^i dont agree with that. a warranty company will say that your exhaust caused whatever with your engine to go wrong, same with new intake, spark plugs etc... the only thing you can 100% get away with is visual mods, and about 85% of the time suspension since it really doesn't affect your motor.
For instance, if your power steering goes up, and you are still covered under warranty, they cant deny service because you have and intake and/or exhaust.
Know what I mean?
Short of hydrolocking the engine though, or getting crap in there because the filter fell off and you ran without one, there isnt really any harm that can be caused by either of those mods. And most dealers know that and would have a hard time proving that that is what caused any issues that may come up.
But like I was saying, they cant void your whole warranty for one modification.
