my problem is this, my old engine ran fine besides a bad idle and a spun bearing, my new engine my friend rebuilt for me said starts fine, sounds good and has no leaks but it dies a few seconds after start up. any idea wat this could be? i told him to check the MAF sensor, check for vaccum leaks, and check the throttle body and make sure the valve isnt sticking. any other suggestions to look for? would the problem be within my tune since i only got the base tune?

 

check the evap canister located to the right off the valve cover, on the driver side.

 

have you tried replacing your evap emissions canister?

 

i havent tried anything, im overseas right now i gotta wait for him to e-mail me back

well he said after his fishing tournament on saturday hes look at it. one guy i work with suggested air/fuel since my friend has to give it gas to keep it running

thats one of my guesses as well, Sentry also said it might be backwards. so i suggested that to my friend. i really appreciate the suggestions everyone. i been workin on this little project for about a year and i want to get it at a nice stopping point. any other suggestions go ahead and throw them at me, im all ears..well in this case eyes

 

well i been told by a friend of mine who worked at a dealership that it needs a crankshaft sensor relearn.....how the hell do i do that without taking it to the dealer? my car still needs fine tuning and i dont wanna consider taking it there until its done or decent running

 

check your front o2 sensor.

 

front o2 is brand new...i pulled the sockets out when i was tryin to take it out the header during the turbo install lol

 

well my first guess would be that the maf is installed backwards...and the crank position sensor is not the problem...my car ran fine without a relearn for over 6 months..i finally did a relearn last week. no more check engine light. Is the car throwing any codes? scan it and find out. could narrow your possibilities of what it could be. in order to do a ckp variation relearn you need a TECH 2 and CANdi module to interface with the ECM. takes like 5 minutes to do. thats how long it took me to do it at School. if it needs a ckp relearn it will just run off the other sensors....dont worry about the ckp for now. another thing to look for is a major vac leak. just spray some TB cleaner and u will be able to see where its getting sucked in thru. good luck

 

thanks ill forward that info to my friend. he checked the maf sensor and said no way it can be backwards cause it only slides into the slot 1 way. and i know its throwing codes cause before the engine got pulled i had one for the rear o2. but im waitin for him to get ahold of a laptop so he can check for more codes

 

yep i had that same problem also when i installed my charge pipes i put the maf in backwards..

 

i hope he didnt install that pipe the wrong way. i got it set up to where it only goes one way lol

well he checked the injector wires cause i used electrical tape instead of solder cause i didnt have a soldering iron lol. the MAF is good and in right, he checked the TB valve and its not sticking. still waitin on my other friend to give him the laptop so he can check the codes being thrown. dammit i hate bein away from my car when its down. i would have been had that thing up and running

 

i just recently found out that my new head has a EGR casting passage...would this cause my car to not idle??

 

your talking about the little hole on the top right of the head?

 

i believe. if you look in the SAI sticky and the picture of the head and at the top its circled in yellow. i guess thats wat the engine has
