cat or no cat?

In FL there are no emissions so thats not an issue. Some cars i.e. mustangs can run without a cat. does the cobalt require a cat for anything? any downside to say running the xtc downpipe w/o cat

It will make your car smell like gas really bad, because the cat burns off the excess fumes. In other words, the exhaust smell will be 10x worse.
It's minimal gains, especially with an overall stock car, bad raspy sound, and bad for the environment. Get a cat.

I'm planning on running a high flow cat once I get up and running.

i would say i would get a cat if i had to pass emitions / and or did not want a sound ordination ticket. but if not i would save the extra 50 bucks and go catless...( also down the road it might get clogged and more money into it) straight through will help out ( not heaping ganes) but will still give you slight gains

the downside to me about catless is the raspy sound which can be fixed by adding a resinator. and boom ur raspyness with the little extra power for less money .... just my 2 cents i know people will argue with me but thats just how i see it.

ZZP advertises 15 hp from their catless dp, that's kind of hard to believe, but if you're running n20 or another power adder it might be worth it. Spend the extra what 20-30 dollars and get a nice sounding exhaust. Why get another resonator when you could just as easily get a dp with a high flo.

On a NA cobalt, the gains will be just about negligible. Maybe a single hp or two if you're lucky.

i can under putting a high flow on a turbocharges car where you use the exhaust to make your power, the more exhaust push through the faster the turbo can spool up. now on a n/a motor you can lose back presser and sound raspy then comes the exhaust tickets

im not going to run a cat but im also going to be running close to 400hp soon you can use a rezonator and a decent muffler to quiet it down.. everyones like no no no it will be raspy it shouldnt be if done rite.

Downside is you will get a CEL/SES light from the HO2S 2 sensor. The ECM will detect that there is no difference between the exhaust's O2 content before and after the cat.

If you have the ability to disable the 2nd HO2S sensor you could do it but if not, you'll have to learn to live with a consistant CEL/SES light...
