cataltic converter?

What exactly does this do...is it like a catback exhaust but just taking out a muffler and putting that thing in???

you're no where close. a cat is an emissions device the is right after you exhaust manifold/header.

bingo, uses catalytic reactions to eliminate harmful emissions from you exhuast

Yep, so if you bought a Cat-back system, the stock Cat would still be in place in front of your exhaust system. I picked up a High-flow 2.5" Vibrant Cat last week.

from what i hear, there is a noticable difference between having a cat-back and putting in that high flow cat.

Possibly but a little amount

By the way, the phrase "cat-back" means pretty much "from the catalytic converter and back"...that represents your piping, resonator (if you have one), and muffler.

Like said, the point of a catalytic converter is for emissions, yes. I will say that if you're going to upgrade your cat-back system (hence making it bigger), you should upgrade your catalytic converter to keep it the same diameter along with upgrading your header as well. While you will get some noticeable gains from just upgrading a cat-back system, you should get rid of the full restriction of your exhaust system. I know, sounds easier said than done when it comes to money wise but this is something you should achieve to do.

Good luck.

i'd like to see a dyno before and after of a high flow cat. seems only reasonable that it would work well with a cat-back and header.

I mainly suggest people should get it to mearly keep the same diameter all through your exhaust and not have your stock catalytic converter be your choking or restricting point and decrease performance.

I have a thread posted concerning the possibility of having Random Technology manufacturing a direct bolt on high flow cat for our cars. I got my car up over my head today to take some pics for them, because they are interested and they asked me to send some pics. While under the car I also used a vernier caliper to measure the pipe diameter before and after the cat on my 2.2L. I had heard that the 2.2L had a much smaller inlet than the 2.0L. I measured the inlet to find it about 2.25" but the outlet was just under, that's right under 2.0". So a direct bolt on cat from the exhaust manifold to the catback of 2.5" with a high flow cat would be a great thing for us. It would also open up the sound of the Corsa catback's for us as well.
