Cheap turbo, Please advise.

Check this out guys.

I need to up my 2.2 Cobalt / Gokart (aka cokart) . I hate 160 hp (intake exhast header ) + stickers 10 hp a piece btw.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDMS-...spagenameZWD1V

Its cheap and in my price range, however I've seen what can happen when a turbo blows.

Please advise.

Why don't you go with like a Hahn Racecraft Turbo, or a Garrett Turbo, Turbonetics, or something name brand. Not some of this Japanese ****!

You drive a Chevy, an American car...

you get what you pay for, i would never advise a customer of mine to purchase that kit. Turbonetics or Garret is what I sell

Problems with that kit. It's $888 and that is just a knock off turbo, and some oil feed line, nylon line, cheap charge piping, etc. There is no manifold (expect to spend another 400 on that alone) no downpipe (another 2-300) and no tuning (another 300+) no injectors, (100+) etc. You would be better off buying what Hahn/Garrett has to sell. By the time you bought that ebay kit and had it put together, custom fab and welded, etc. it would have cost you as much if not more than the hahn/garrett kit. go with that.

thanks

Very true,

First off Thanks for the amazingly quick responses. I just went down the elevator and had a smoke came back up and had all these replies. You guys ROCK!

Well to answer the questions, the reason is cost alone. I'm a father of 2 children and i'm only 23. I make good money but forking out 3 grand for 60 hp seems low. Not to mention internals, at just over 200 hp would I need cam's and should I up the rod bearings?

Garrets turbo shows going from 145 to 198 on their site. It must be like 2 psi out of box. What about injectors, please give me a full run down on what i'll need if i buy this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...spagenameZWD1V

This will be my FIRST turbo and I want to make sure I dont blow this car like I did when i supercharged my 2001 z24 2.4 . Will the stock injectors do ok? My exhast is magnaflow 2.5 which i assume will be perfect. Please advise.

do what i did, i made my own.
the hahn and garret ones are $4500+ canadian so i was like screw that! for what they come with anyways...
I made my own turbo kit, and right now i have spent under $3000

PLUS i got the following that are not included in the kits:

A piller pod
Boost Controller
EGT Gauge
Wide Band
Oil Pressure
3" high flow cat
Oil Catch can
headgasket
Rods
and Head studs...
big difference in what i have with my kit and what i paid, compared to what they offer.

T3/T4 on a 2.2 Cobalt... even if it did fit you'd have to wait about 20 minutes to get boost.

Completely agree. There are T3/T4's out there that are smaller then the disco potato and some that will flow as much as a GT30.

It all depends on the specs. Get a real turbo kit, or build your own. Its not that difficult if you do the research. I can guarantee u that every question about how to turbo a 2.2 has been asked on this forum and has already been answered by myself and a handful of others. Just use that search button dude! I know you're smart enough

x2 just remeber dont go cheap on FI. Fast, reliable, and cheap....you can only have 2 of the 3, remember that good luck though man.

As for the garrett kit i dont know how good the tune is that comes with that b/c it is canned. i would buy the cheaper garrett kit kit without the tuner and have vince tune it from trifecta.

EDIT: just saw that is the kit you were looking at so never mind on the last part.

I live in ohio which apparently doesn't matter! I edited this due to knowing how vince sends his tunes. Very impressive and i'm corresponding with him atm to see what i can get prior turbo. I am trying to find a way to make mad cash in a month to do this. I only bring in like 500/ week.

Swyswy I watched ur vids on youtube, I like the car. Mine is yellow too!!

Yes I do know how to search, this is just a more personalized approach! Not to mention I'm trying to find somebody who can make the turbo kit for me. I'm pretty damn mechanically inclined for a computer guy however, I am in no way capable of putting on a turbo.

I want to spend a max of 2500 bucks and get the whole setup. Tuned if possible for that, but I dont know how I would deal with sending my ecu to cali.

Just build your own kit for less then what everyone else charges man,it will save you money, like me I saved my self over 200 dollars by buying my own downpipe material for 13 dollars and its a 2.5 downpipe.Doing your own work if possible or having a relative helping you out, will always be the best route to go.
