coolant temp

my coolant temp today was the highest i have ever seen it. i got gas than went across the street to the bank and it read 208. than i went home and it was at 212. than it went to 210. i went home and parked in my drive way and it read 217. i have a feeling i need more coolant.
this is currently what my tank looks like
this isnt normal correct. if people can chime in thatd be great.

What speed were you driving at when you noticed this? Was it stop and go city-type driving?

My car easily passes 200 degrees when I'm in traffic, even on days which aren't that hot out.

Also, I had low coolant once, and the car told me so. Are you getting any notifications?

When the car is cold, the coolant should be at the bottom of that arrow on the tank. Is it?

if your coolant tank is that low the DIC should actually tell you "LOW COOLANT" ...but i'd say at least top it off the the seem of the tank

see on the tank where it has that arrow pointing to the seam(1/2 way up the tank) of the tank that says "cold fill" thats were you want your coolant level at when coolant is at ambient temps

When the coolant is hot it should be about 1-2 inches above that line. It says "Cold Fill" for a reason. Top it off, keep an eye on it. if the level is roughly the same after a week, you're good to go.

When driving my normal is like 180, but i have seen LOW COOLANT (when it's not low) as well as my temp goes between 195 and 217. I think it's hit as high as 233 one time last year.

thanks for the responses.
i wasnt sure if anything over 205 or so was bad or not as its normaly around 185-190. i saw 217 and i drove home and parked my car in the driveway and left the hood open for a while as i thought it was bad.

ha ok. so yes u have low coolant. if i were you i would just fill it with water because the dexcool coolant asks for a mixture anyways. so itll be perfectly fine. i usually fill where the top piece and the bottom piece meet. and ive noticed on my car, that the coolant usually stays at 180ish while driving but if i stop and sit for a couple it goes up and ends up getting to around 220 and it goes down on its own from wha ive seen but i wound up playing with the vents and for some reason having the fans set to the top vent and feet which is what i do always, for some reason the engine fans dont turn on. ive noticed if you change it to just feet or defrosters or something it turns on the fans ha and the temp gfoes down ha. its really weird. um.. so try that and hopefully it works because im the same way seeing the temp get above 200 sortof scares me. and like you said, keep an eye on the coolant level. look under your car after getting out. see if theres a leak anywhere. blah blah. i doubt your car is burning coolant though.. youll figure it out. there is only a few things it could be thats causing coolant to lower. main thing would be a leak. so best of luck and let us all know.

When you turn the heat on it helps bring down the coolant temp because its blowing air through the heater core......

wrong because the containter says dont add water.

i already bought the coolant and added it to right where the top half meets the bottom half. filled it right below the arrow and my temp stays around 185-190 ish

I run Purple Ice, decent enough. Pulled temps down 10* in my L61 and ~5* in my LNF.

i know turning the heat on cools the car.... what i was saying is when the vents are on feet and face it doesnt do anything as far as engine fans. then you change the vent and they go on. then if you go BACK to feet and face it shuts off again.

ha watever you say dude. it says dont add water because chevy wants you to go and buy dexcool EVERY TIME you need coolant. the only reason dexcool is needed is because of winter water would freeze. the dexcool is an antifreeze.
