sounds like he wants to rig it up, you need the MAF the car will shut down the first time u start the car w/out it, and tyhe second time it will idle funny, and drive funny when u are accelarating, you need it in there,,, if your gunna rig it up, please try and do it right, MAF needs to be int he same position, same distance from the TB, and the piping cant be smaller than 2.75 before the MAF and 3" after, or 3" all the way or you will throw a CEL, also design matters, how many bends and where the bends are at

you can use the same maf if you can find a way to make sure that it stays where it needs to be. drilling holes and screwing it in may be a pain, and try to find a little seal for the maf to tube connection

I just recently built a short ram intake for a friend. It was for an '08 2.2L G5. We used a 90 degree rubber elbow on the throttlebody. We used a short ram intake from a 98-02 non-ecotec 2.2L Cavalier. I had to cut about 4 inches off the intake. We carved out the stock MAF bung from the stock airbox and clamped it to the end of the Cavy intake. Then we clamped a cone filter on the other end of the MAF bung pipe section. After that we used the Cavy intake's IAT sensor hole and ran rubber hose from there to the valve cover. I wish I had pics. It looks pretty nice and didnt throw any codes. The most expensive part of this whole build was the cone filter.
edit. these are some of the parts we used...
and this is what the MAF bung looked like. I carved it out of the stock airbox by using a chopsaw and a grinder. Then I sanded it smooth.
total cost was about 40 bucks
the cavy intake was about 10 bucks
the cone filter was less than 20
the clamp was 8 bucks
the vacuum hose and fitting was about 5 bucks
the elbow was salvaged from another car's intake system.
