well i did the chop up the air lid and add a cone filter mod. but now my gas mileage has gone to ****. i did it a month or so ago. and i dunno what to do. and i have a problem with power distribution. sometimes the little bastard will run like a rapped ape. its an auto and if it idles to long or gets alil warm it runs like crap. and do i mean crap. it runs perfect at 189 and thats what it usually runs. or used to run, now that it runs at 190 its all gone to hell. is it the cat doing all this or what. i dunno??? this car is known for cutting some honda ass and now i am kinda worried of running anything.or unless i let my car sit with the engine off then run it straight from there. i dunno. guys please.... please....

Others with short rams an air box mods have complained of this lateley, while its nice to keep the filter out of the water the downside can be hot weather, causing extra heat under the hood affecting performance

1 degree is not making your car run like ****... these cars run fine at higher temps... over 200 it should still be running fine... i think around 230 fans kick on to bring the temp down...

i'm guessing your just fucked something up with the "hack the box mod"

Probly messed up your MAF, and if you did then you'll learn to spend the money on an intake and not hack your box.

did you disconnect the battery for a while to let things reset themselves or does that even matter with this mod?

it would matter. your giving the car more breathing ability so forcing it to suck in more air while it isn't expecting it would be bad.

unplug the battery for like 10 minutes
plug it back in then turn the car on for like 10 minutes before reving the engine
give it a few revs after the 10 minutes it has been on
then turn off the car and turn it back on
then take it for a spin.

Make sure u installed the maf the right way around. If it's backwards the car will run funny. Also make sure you used a good quality filter like K&N. If you used a shitty $15 one then it could be the reason for your bad gas milage as the filters that are that cheap are not efficient and actually kill gas milage for sound.

do you have a picture? i had a custom cai on my focus, and after hydrolocking it , i moved on up to custom short ram, i took a saw to the tube with the maf, before the maf actually, and runs fine in hot weather. and i live in texas! i was at the track(110 degrees) and i used my cai, then switched to sri, and i ran the same times. i know cobalts engines are setup differently, and they dont sell sri's for focuses, so when i get a cobalt i'm just going to buy one.
and it is that crappy 20 dollar filter from autozone.

This is just my opinion, but if don't know how to disconnect a battery perhaps you shouldn't be hacking up your airbox...
