Dual Exhaust?
if you're doing it for looks, then it's all good, i guess... for performance, it's a no go... and they're all custom because ** cough , information ahead /end cough ** we have a 4 banger and there is no need for a dual exhaust
basically at the axel you would split them into 2 pipes probably best bet would be to have it done at a exhaust shop rksport sells a setup for the jbodys not sure for the cobalts. Hope your not expecting any gains really it is for all looks, and sound
yea at the axle make break there and put another muffler on the other side. the sunfire GT came with the dual looking exhaust. or like some cars just have a fake one lol. i have seen it on a few cars. 1 muffler is real and the other is just there.
I seen a semi-funtion dual on a 2.2. where the pipe is like a Y shape or like and elbow pipe after the cat so when its running most exhasut is coming out of both pipe. Its not real duals but yeah
i have a "dual set up" its a y pipe i had made right after the axel.... i fking love it, i ran through a magnaflow resonator, and then through 2 cans.... its always very low, it never gets highpitched and ricey and the low end is very good.... way better than any of the 3 or so single outlet exhaust bvy far... they were eather good sounding and not much gain, or very good gain but way too fking loud, this is a big gain and perfect sound

dyno? timeslips? please provide proof of the big gain... by principal alone, i don't see how it could cause any big gains...
I haven't seen very many late model cars with true dual exhausts. Most of them have a single catalytic converter and then split into dual pipes. Some also share a single muffler. If dual exhaust at the rear is what YOU want go for it. If you ask for opinions you're going to get all kinds of responses -- we all don't like the same things....
i don tknow how this works, but i was looking at this kids civic, and he had a 'true' i guess you could call it dual exhaust. he had a header, and his down pipe was actually two pipes, which went straight back.
As long as someone makes a 4-into-2 header (Or make it yourself with an exhaust plate) you could then have an exhaust shop custom bend two complete systems -- just need lots of money. There is definitely room to do this in the Cobalt's engine compartment and the performance with two pipes will almost match an open exhaust system. We used to do this on straight 6s -- as in 6-into-2 with Clifford Headers. Unless you keep the pipe size reasonable (= < 2”) and add resonators it will sound.....how can I best put this....horrible! You also have to make sure to connect two opposed cylinders – If the firing order is 1-3-4-2 (Example, going off memory here – check firing order -- I could be wrong), you want to connect 1 and 4, 3 and 2; otherwise you’ll get a REALLY odd sounding exhaust note. If you've ever heard an old pre-1979 Buick Oddfire V6 you'll know what I mean. You have to be really hard-core to do this.....
I went to the local speed shop today and i saw that the owners son has a cobalt. it has the razzi body kit and "dual exhaust". i asked the owner about it.... all it is is a single exhaust with tips..... not a whole muffler.... filling the other hole... kinda cheap, and i wouldnt do it, but you really cant tell unless you look under the car.
no phisical proof of a big gain except driving it, its not a mental thing i think im feeling, ive had 4 ecxhaust on this car and this gives you alot more low end then all of my others.... i could have just gotten lucky on the combo of parts

what do you mean don't attempt it....true duals are impossible without two headers, you can't "attempt it"

not to be a dick but that would look spiffy, for a homeless bum, anyways, why would you want true duals, wouldnt need anywhere near that much room for the system, if you want the dual exhaust look then buy the mufflers that have the single in and dual out, like the srt 4 has
