right...

I love anti-nitrous comments. Especially cause I know more people with Nitrous shots that are more reliable than half the people with aftermarket turbo setups and just as fast.

Anyways, to the original poster:

Don't just modify your car cause you want to beat your brother. That's a lame reason to spend thousands of dollars.

If you are serious, read everything you can about theories of engines and forced induction (or nitrous injection if that's the way you want to go). Also read about fuel management as well. I can suggest some books if you want.

Reason I say this is that if you go and try and jump into something, you're not going to know how to do it correctly and by you asking the question you did, no offense at all, I can tell that you aren't necessarily prepared mentally. This is in no way a insult cause we all started from somewhere (including me).

Think of it like this: Would you go swimming in the ocean if you didn't know how to swim? Same difference.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to go nitrous because I've herd and seen **** story about bent rods and warped valves so I don't want to take a risk. But my delima is that It is an 07 so last I looked the reflashes with the garret turbo don't work. I wasn't worried as much about the engine as I was the transmtion.

I gust started the thread to see if I could bilid up for a resonabale price.

well ive heard, if you set up the nitrous right it isnt bad at all, people just hook it up wrong and thats why they bust things, putting nitrous is just as dangerous to the car as adding forced induction

Your sources are biased.

Nitrous Injection is just as dangerous as forced induction if you don't know what you're doing. Ignorance kills engines in most of the street cars that are modified.

Honestly...here is my opinion:

1. Save your money - Why? Cause if you truely want to road race, don't do it with your daily driver. Road Racing messes with alot of factors and adds stresses in many places. It's not like you going to the 1/4 track for one hard pull, these are multiple hard pulls, hard stops, possible sharp turns and the list goes on.

2. You have automatic. Trust me, I have nothing against autos but if you want to road race, you'd gain full advantage of a manual transmission as far as controlling what gear you're in or going to be in out of a turn (for example).

3. You really need to learn more about engines, forced induction and engine management systems (atleast the basics) before you want to jump into anything.

You got a 2.2 auto Cobalt more than likely because of financial situation. Maybe you should work on that or save the money until you can come up with a more suitable vehicle.

Also, from my understanding, there is a lot to get involved into before you actually start roading racing as far as courses and things of that nature.

I'm just giving you honest advice because I want to go in the same path and I'm not going to do it with my current vehicle. I'm going to get a pure project car that if it breaks down, it won't keep me from missing work or important events.

I don't want to tell you yes or no.

I will say this. Take me up on my suggestion to read books and understand. Then when you learn atleast the basics, you can make a honest assessment of if you feel the "worth" of doing it or not. I can not and don't want to make the decision for you.

Things like this, you just need to choose your own path.

I can give you book suggestions if you want. PM me.
