You want a 600hp built car replace the pistons, rods, and get ARP Headstuds. The crank is 600hp rated and the sleeves are too. If you want 1000hp rated you gotta replace the crank($700ish) and sleeves(another $700ish).

for those power levels there is no question that you're running full standalone

well there are none specifically made for the Cobalt so which one you choose really is going to be up to you.

the cheapest one is going to be Megasquirt but is going to require you to do all the wiring.

i know something that is just as cheap as MS and does all the same things, but easier! Perfect Power's XMS-L stand alone. It already works with all of GM's sensors, including the crank sensor. Its built around the 60-2(58X) setup. Its made specifically for 4cyl wasted spark cars. It can be hooked up just like MS to control just fuel and timing. It also has a electronic boost controller built in, with aux inputs for nitrous control. You can run narrow-band closed loop as well. If you go with the XMS stand alone it has the ability to run wideband closed loop as well.

If you want to go top notch, you'd have to get the MSD Digital Programmable 7 (4cyl) and F.A.S.T. XFI. That's what I'll be running.
