Engine Tapping Noise?

So, my 2006 has 117,500 miles on her. Ive started to hear a tapping noise from the engine while driving. Its been too cold / I havent had time to look at it yet, but I'm assuming timing chain or Lifters (coming from the VW world, you get used to that) Anyone else have this problem, offer suggestions, things to look at? How badly Ima get raped to make it go away?

could be an exhaust manifold leak, that sounds like a light tapping noise, check you tube, theres a video on how to check for exhaust leaks

Exhaust system hasnt been touched since August.

Its loud... gonna try and limp to a GM dealership tomorrow to have it looked at. So far thoughts seem to be a timing chain / tensioner or maybe rod knock :-\

Just sucks.

Open the hood and poke around with your biggest screw driver (or mechanics stethoscope). That'll make it pretty clear. But if you used a fram oil filter I'm willing to bet money that it collapsed and is restricting oil flow causing your lifters to tick. Just use the damn ac delco filter from the dealer, its cheaper than the fram anyways.

I doubt it's a major thing like a spun rod or anything. usually a ticking or tapping (fast pace) is up top, like a rocker arm, lifter tick.

Does it change with RPM? My gues would be the timing chain tensioner.

When your over 100,000 you dont have a warranty.

And it ate a rod bearing. I'm pulling the engine and swapping to my backup tomorrow.

Oh damn. I wonder how that happened. You slacking on you oil changes or not using good oil?

My rod bearings looked brand new when I popped the pistons out at 95k miles.

No. I change oil (castrol GTX) and Filter (ACDelco, Wix, or Purolater) every 3-4k. I take damn good care of my stuff. I dont really know what went, I drive the car, but I dont hammer on her.

Same thing happened to mine about 3 weeks ago. I noticed oil consumption 2 weeks before it happened, watched it like a hawk but it still took one out. I also found the intial cause, a chunk missing out of the ringland.

As soon as I know whats going on with WoW i'll let you know man!

I'm thinking a 12:1 compression, maybe stroked NA motor may be built out of my original engine....
