Honestly by the time you purchase everthing and go thru the labor of putting it on u will have probably spent the same as getting an aftermarket exhaust and my not see the gains that the aftermarket would produce. Get the Resonator... High flow cat and then maybe a DC sports muffler and ride out... but i would price everthing out and weigh out both options.

www.gravanatuning.com has a magnaflow cat and a couple mufflers to choose from. talk to a shop and ask how much it would be to get a custom exhaust, it usually ends up being cheaper than a cat-back, but like stated above, you have no idea of gains (or in some cases, losses).

you dont want to get a muffler with a tip large enough to put your hand inside, this causes people like me to point and laugh at your car.

good luck, post pics when you are done.

I'm sorry but that's incorrect.

Just because a companies name is on a product, doesn't mean it will yield more power than other companies. The reason you gain power from upgrading your exhaust is because of:

1. Better Bends (less restrictive)
2. Bigger in diameter (able to flow more exhaust)

As long as he takes his car to a reputable shop that's local to him that can do mendrel or compression bends properly, he should be 100% fine and gain the same amount of power as anyone with an "pre-made" exhaust setup.

As far as pricing goes...there have been plenty of people who have spent much less on a custom exhaust setup (parts and labor) and come out spending less money comapred to just buying a pre-made exhaust system from some company. It honestly all varies.

To the orginal poster...

As long as you buy parts from reputable companies (Magnaflow is a good idea ) and don't go over 2 1/4" diameter (honestly, 2 1/2" is too big), you should be fine. Good luck.

LOL i didnt say he WOULDNT lol i said he MAY not.. what u said is correct... which was the point i was getting at. The shop has to know what they are doing.. and also not be chargin u out the azz for labor. Some shops(once u mention something custom) start gettin ridiculous with the labor... Thats why i was saying.. price it out... and see what option seems to be the better deal. Research the spot your going to also.

NyCobalt88

Hope the custom set up works well for you!! I did it on my blazer and it worked wonderfully.. Best Wishes

i had 2 1/4 on my cav when it was N/A, then bumped it up to 2 1/2 after i got some boost, then left it at 2 1/2 after the turbo was off, and:
1. the 2 1/2 sounded better (deeper tone)
2. i had about 1 hp MORE with the 2 1/2

2 1/2 in your experience may have given you some bad results, but it gave me some great results and i was happier with it than my 2 1/4.

here is a good link, that chart on that page hasnt failed me yet
