exhaust?
I wouldn't buy a whole new rear bumper just for that, but there has to be another option, like a kip or something like that.
The reason I say that is because a buddy of mine had a LS & he put dual exhausts on & 1 tip/muffler was always bouncing, & they just hung there... It looked out of place.

deep?
From my understanding now all Cobalts come with 2.5" OD pipe up to the over axle section which is 2.25" ID. Either way 2.25 inch or 2.5" and you'll be fine. If you aren't worried about HP gains pick the 2.25" (it's cheaper piping in most shops); if you plan on mods and want the most possible HP, then pick the 2.5" (usually upcharged in most shops).
i just ordered my magnaflow from turbo tech, recieved it in 3 days, and all I can say is WOW.. not to loud at all. gets a little loud at wot. but at idle can barely hear it. It is awesome....GO MAGNAFLOW and you wont be un happy
Even though i might get a bunch of **** for saying it because its a EBay thing..
the Tsudo Cat Back Exhaust...its really nice.
Not RICEY loud...not deep tone but its not rediculous..
and you can get it for 250.

I suggest Borla Exhaust, your better off getting the cat back exhaust from a dealer or what i did, buy the turbo muffler and get it custom piped it has an aggresive growl but not to loud all in the same, worth it.
I am looking into getting just a new muffler and exhaust tip for my car. Looking for sound and appearance, could care less about increased HP.
If you could produce a sound clip that would be AWESOME.
Clarification please????
