Exhaust

just bought me an 06 Cobalt LT and was wondering what types of exhaust are recommended. I'm into a rumbling muscle car sound. I HATE rice burners. thanks for the help

If you want loud go with the performance, quiter go with touring.

If you dont go with GMPP stay below 2.5" diameter.

I'm too lazy to find the link for you, so my advice is to use the search button to find what you need->I know there are some threads with audio clips you can listen to so you can make comparisons. As for me, I plan on getting the GMPP touring exhaust. Oh, and welcome to the site!

Best bang for your buck: SS/SC Exhaust

Middle Ground: GMPP Sport or Touring

Expensive, but awesome sound: Corsa

It's going to sound like RICE. Keep the resonator, stay away from flowmasters for this engine.

It'll sound just ever so slightly louder. The only advantage to the SS/SC exhaust on the LS is the 2.25/2.5" exhaust diameter

IMO, GMPP is the way to go. They are the best priced exhaust on the market and they sound great. You should be able to pick one up for around 400.00 and the kicker is they are made by Borla.

I think Cobalt-Addiction has them the cheapest (online) for 370 or so. Great Buy.

Which is the only reason why someone would swap their stock exhaust for an aftermarket one. There won't be any difference in performance between the SS/SC exhaust on a 2.2 compared to an aftermarket 2.5" exhaust, the only difference will be the tone of the muffler.

Not true, theres a performance gain. The stock SS/SC exhaust is crush bent so its size is not the same through out the entirety of the car.

Redline TV dynoed a LS cobalt with the GMPP exhaust and it gained 7 WHP

If you put the SS/SC manifold, Downpipe and exhaust on 2.2 the gains would be awesome for your buck.

GMPP Sport 2.2L

Installd the GMPP Sport on my 2.2L LS 2 days ago. We did it on a lift and took more time to cut the old pipe off than it did to put the whole new one on.

This exhaust is the best one I've ever had.

Its deep and low, it literaly growls. idle to about 1500rpm deep and smooth, 1500 to 3000 starts getting louder but still deep. Not until you hit the powerband at 4000 do you really hear any drama from the rear. ITS NOT RICEY, I havent heard a snap or crackle anywhere in the RPM range. 70 miles and hour on the freeway I can still hear the cd player at volume 3. Interior resonance "ringing" is minimal till you really wind it up.

somebody is probably gonna freak out on me and bite my ******* **** off, but i need to tell you...if you are looking for a "rumbly muscle car sound" don't waste your money on doing any exhaust work because it is just not going to happen on a four cylinder. You can make it sound good for sure, but if you are looking for a muscle car sound, don't waste your money.

Go with GMPP TOURING, the world in difference in sounds compared to the performance one. Same gains as performance, but just a deeper sound. I have and love mine!! Deff recommend the touring!

Anyone have sound clips of pacesetter catback, GMPP, Corsa, DC Sport, SS/SSC exhaust. The question of "what exhaust should i get" comes up soooooooooo often, we should sticky some sound clips... just an idea
