So the turbo kits range for about 3600-4000, procharger was about the same at 3800 and a SC could be done for about 2000 conisiting of buying used parts off previous users. So is SC the cheaest way to go on FI

yo ucan pick up a SC kit for a grand

there was a guy selling the complete supercharge kit for the 2.2 (using M62)
for 700 on here

 

you can build a custom kit yourself alot chepar than the kits on the internet. you just need to search around and look for deals of ppl selling their old parts. custom turbo kit can range from 1000 - 3500 depending on what kind of turbo/parts you buy. Supercharger kit can be collected from LSJs on here wanting to go turbo or TVS. Some ppl sell their M62 kits for as little as 600.

What kind of bov are you going to use? And, really 250 for gauges? What all are you monitoring?

You can get brand new autometer gauges on ebay for like $50-60 each.

 

He must be talking about autometer full sweep gauges. They are around $115 to $140 each.

I'm glad to see more people going through with their custom turbo builds. How many threads do we have around here like "My custom Turbo Kit" and then of course they always end up not installing it and just saying this car is not worth it.

The problem with custom kits is the fact that you are going to have to figure everything out yoursef (or get people here to help) and it is not going to snap toghether like legos. You will have to have some mechanical experiance and must be willing to work through various problems. A kit will give you the ease of just buying it all bundled but it has its price.

althou those prices are prettylow, again im a 2.0.. but clutch for me was 1100, and turbo was 1200 guages im at 600 or 700, manifold 739, ...and the rape continues

in the end my custom build runs me the same cost as a bought kit, but with more power possiblilites, aftermarket intake manifold, a aftermarket coolant tank, and i get to use atmospehric bov

 

how are you using an atmo. BOV? did you put it on the hot side before the intercooler? bc i thought it messed with your maf.

 

my MAF is on the cold side of the intercooler piping, inside a 3" diameter pipe, 12" long, my BOv on the hot side of the intercooler piping, no issues what soever with MAF that way

 

if the BOV is before the MAF, it can vent to atmosphere fine. Basically, it has to be a blow through system

 

oh thats what i figured. i will be using an atmos. bov aswell when i get my turbo build going.
