Front cover gasket???
Front cover gasket???
Hi my name is AJ and I have a few questions on the 2.2 liter in my 03 cavalier and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I need to replace the seal behind the crank gear because of oil leaking out of it. but the kit I got came with a front cover gasket also. Can I pull just the front cover off this engine or do I need to do something special since the water pump is internallly driven by the timing chain. I really would just like to replace the front cover gasket since I have it but I dont want to do it if its I have to do several other steps to get it off. I am a technician at a ford dealer so I have tools and knowledge just not on this engine. Can you guys help Me out?
Yeah, you can just remove the front cover without touching the water pump. I think there are something like a dozen bolts you have to take off to get it. In the upper left hand corner of the cover there are four bolts close together that you don't have to touch though. They hold a plate that covers up the water pump but since you are taking the whole cover off you don't need to remove those.
Awesome that makes the job easier. Are the bolts TTY bolts and need to be replaced or can I reuse them? and can do you happen to know the torque specs of the bolts? Thanks for the help in advance. I have to replace both the cover and the crank seal gasket they both seem to be leaking oil. So any help or tips would be greatly appreaceted.
Thanks, AJ
Thanks, AJ
Crank pulley bolt is one time use, all others are reusable.
Go to gm sport compact . net all the tech specs are there
just PM Steddy and ask him nice if he can copy/paste them for you(or anybody else online with a colored username).....tell him I said so

that front cover is a bitch...but its doable. you will have to take your tensioner pulley out and in order to replace that gasket, your engine mount AND the bracket on the engine as well....
honestly...if it isnt leaking...just leave it and save the gasket
if i get to it ill upload pics from when my engine was out a few weeks ago
