GM Tuning Guides - 2.2L Ecotec

I'm sure most of you have seen these but for those that are new and may have missed the link, here's links to increasing the HP on your stock 2.2L Ecotec directly from GM. The document says they're good for the 2.2L Ecotec up to 2005 Cavaliers but I'm assuming with the picture on top being a Cobalt LS this includes us .

2.2L Ecotec Stock to 250hp
2.2L Ecotec 250hp to 400hp

There's also a 600hp to 1400hp article but unless you're looking to build a race car I would hope you wouldn't need to look at this !

Ya I was kinda hoping they might offer mods such as pulleys, etc. over the S/C...but I should be able to manage to save up enough by the time I start modding next summer if I'm really serious about it. Probably the best part about it is none of these modifications will void your warranty. The 250 --> 400 guide also mentions a turbocharger so it looks like there's more aftermarket modifications than some may have thought .

Here's a link to the turbo system mentioned in the second document for the 2.2L. I've sent an e-mail to their sales department requesting the price (in CDN) for the state 1 turbo kit. I'll let everyone know if/when they get back to me.

Hahn RaceCraft Turbo

On top of the cost of the S/C as well is the fact you have to begin running 92 octane fuel which may be a little hard on the 2.2L after running the recommended regular for a year but I'm sure it'd adapt nicely .

If you go to the following link and search for part# 17800003, the price on the package is quoted as $3,388.00 from GM or their price of $2,845.92. I somehow find that drop hard to believe but I guess it's possible:

I believe that the GM price includes installation.

If that was the case then that sounds much better than I had originally thought. I really wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself so I would have to get the service department at my dealer to install it along with (hopefully) the A pillar from the SS so I don't have to make any nasty mods to my dash, etc.
