Hi! First post... anyway:

I just purchased a used '06 Cobalt LS 5 speed. Great little ride... fun and handles well. Whoever owned it before me put exhaust on it. I was curious how to tell if it's actually the GMPP exhaust... I've seen a few pictures, but almost all of them are somewhat fuzzy. I can tell that it has "performance" stamped into the side of the cat, but I can't tell hardly anything else. Mine has a big "XL Performance" across it where the "L" in "XL" underlines "Performance." Is there any way to tell, specifically? How can I see whether or not they've replaced the downpipe?

I look forward to this being the first car I actually put some elbow grease into and work on a bit, going to try to get as much performance without forced induction as I possibly can... mostly because I like my mileage and 89 octane, but it could stand to gain another 30 or 40whp.

Since I've never worked on a car before, can someone tell me the easiest way to discover whether or not mine has the SAI? Has anybody discovered headers that work with the SAI and you can bolt on?

If you can get under the car and look at the muffler it SHOULD read GM Performance if I'm not mistaken. If you search around and closely inspect the pictures you should see the machine stamp on it I'm talking about.

First off, welcome to the site!

It doesn't sound like a GMPP exhaust; the GM exhausts have "GM Performance Parts" on the resonator.

 

As far as the Secondary Air Injection goes, check out THIS thread. We actully found a solution on how to remove it safely.
