I have an SS sc downpipe on my 2.2, and i was wondering what effects i would get if i gutted my cat on it?

 

well, it would sound like ****, you won't pass inspection, and it will sound like ****. and you won't really gain anything. i wouldn't bother.

 

<5 hp and a really loud exhaust. Whether or not you like the sound is a matter of opinion. I bypassed the Cat with a straight pipe and some clamps on my blazer, and its loud as **** and mean sounding now...but its waay to loud. Specially since I gave the car to my girlfriend and she looks like a hillbilly driving a loud ass truck around.

youd likely get codes, your cat will get very very hot.
your car may have issues at high rpm (sputtering, coughing, backfire)
exhaust may develope rattles

 

You smell carbon and ****, you may notice small metallic particles around the exit of your exhaust. Tap it LIGHTLY with a mallet to see if something is rattling around in there.

You will be making more boost than normal... oh wait... you dont make boost

 

It's not that loud but it does sound Honda-ish

 

so even with the stock exhaust it sounds loud? cuz i have a full lsj exhaust, header, dp, and catback...so if i gutted the cat, it'd be loud as hell, even wth a stock muffler? hmm...
