TCM = Trans Control Module
PCM = Powertrain Control Module

You could go to autozone or somewhere and you can buy a thing to alldata. I believe you get to pick 1 car for a certain year and model. Then you can search the code and it will have GM's flow chart for the diagnosis. If you want on tuesday when I'm back in school i'll search the code for you. I can print the pages off and I could probably scan them on my computer and upload them. Unless that's against the law or something since alldata isn't free.

I'm not sure if that would work man. I think most GM PCM/TCM's are a one time thing. When a new one is installed in a car a Tech has to program the VIN into the PCM. Not sure if that applies to cobalt PCM/TCM's but if it is then thats your problem. You might have to just take it to a dealer to see if they can figure it out. Might be a hefty bill though.

Yeah you cant just plug computers in and expect them to work. This isnt honda. The computer needs to be flashed and i believe that can only be done with a techII

as long at both tcms have the same caliberations, tire size etc. "hot swapping" will work and you can tune the new TCM with trifecta, all vince needs to do is change the vin on your last TCM tune to match the vin on the new TCM.

if you're gonna answer the question accurate info does help, this is already a reason why css is looked down upon. nothing personal to anyone that supplied misinformation. i'm just tired of seeing a bunch of "i don't knows" until someone that does know pops up with an answer.

Well, I am fairly certain with a E37 ECU it wont work that way due to the way the computers communicate with eachother. If it works with the older pre-CanBus system then so be it, but dont be an ******* about it, we all make mistakes. We arent all mechanics or experts, Im an engineer by trade. You yourself said that the vin needs to be changed so i was not that far off.

that's why i did point out that I meant no offense. kinda hard to get across emotion in written text. i have even tried an 07 TCM on my 06 and although it did work for the most part the calibrations between the model years is different in some very key areas. we are all here to learn, right?

did the TCM need to be programmed with VIN # or was there another issue? I started throwing the U0101 code last week and have the same symptoms. I ordered a replacement TCM from a 2007 cobalt (same year as my car) with the same part # and everything.
