header for 2.2l using stock cat

is there a after market header (shorty) out there thats fits my stock 2.2l 3 bolt flange, or do i have to go catless custom down pipe to, if not will running with a catless dp trip a o2 senors or a check engine light, or could some one just give me some ideas on how to go about NOT tripping a light while running a header. really what I'm trying to get is a little more power/sound from my 2.2l and still keep my stock muffler I've already removed the resonator and went to a 2.5 custom cat-back exhaust to the stock muffler, ve it a little but still looking for just a bit more, but dont want it sounding like a ricer! thanks

you can still go with a cat. converter if you want on a custom downpipe if wanting to go that route for less money.Just need a shop or a friend who can weld if they will do it though.I am still going to put a catalytic converter on eventually just not right now. When I get my new 02 sensor,I will just hook them back up again and if the light goes off, then no reason to have a catalytic converter. Some cars are like that where you won't need a catalytic converter and just have the 02 sensors instead where the light will turn off.

yeah but those shorty headers would be called exhaust manifold I guess. You would have to go to www.cobalt-addiction.com.You will have so much fun trying to take the rusted bullshit stock crap off,it will take you easily a hour in a half or a little longer, depending how rusted it is.

I have the pacesetter and my stock Cat still.

Just have to have someone that will install it and just adjust it to where it fits. Not too hard to do.

was it a drop in and bolt up, or was there some cut and weld involed, I'm really trying to keep it clean and nice, I thought about a header, with no-cat dp, I seen one with an o2 plug in, but even with it pluged with no cat will it trip a light, I gues what Im trying to say is DO you have to have a cat?

Yes ss/sc manifolds are the same insofar as bolting up goes.

I'm running the SS/SC manifold and DP.

Well for obvious legal reasons I say yes. Im pretty sure they can slap your ass with a hellacious fine if you are caught without one.

Second you are going to throw a code and I may be completely wrong about this but what i have heard is if you are throwing the code from not having a cat your engine actually cuts hp by adjusting fuel trying to correct for the thrown code.

But i know that if you can get past the o2 sensor problem then you would technically be ok. But im not sure how to get around that

when you go catless on any vehicle, you will get easily 3 extra hp compared to a high flo cat. What you can do if the **** is welded right, your car will just have a nice tone and not sound like major ass like mine did but solved the problem right away. You can get a 02 simulator and call it the day where it will turn off the cel light.I highly doubt a cop is going to bend down underneath the car to even look at it.Cops can't tell for ****,also they wont put in the effort of doing their job right of making sure.that is why they are going to assume the light is on and if its not, they can't bust you for the ****.

It shouldn't make a difference really,they're is 2 options a spark plug anti-fouler or a universal 02 simulator.

Wow... you kids(the OP and B20) dont know crap about exhaust... So much wrong with all you both have said.

1. CA is overpriced and it shouldnt take anywhere near an hour. It took me 30 min to replace my manifold.
2. You dont gain but 1 hp by removing the cat unless you are already pushing over 400hp.
3. Depending on where you live(southesast doesnt say ****) you wont pass inspection. Dont pass and you get a $250 fine here in NC.
4. Learn the concept of the search button, this is covered almost weekly.
5. What is so good about the oem muffler? It looks like a cancerous growth and is restrictive.
6. silver06 you are on the right track but it only adjusts fuel if it is a harmful code, not passing emissions wont harm anything aside from treehuggers and if you try to kill yourself in a garage. O2 sensor 1 will adjust accordingly but O2 sensor 2 only monitors and reports, it doesnt actually do anything power wise.
7.

I agree with all that....but the stock muffler also has ANOTHER quality. The 'fence post' that protrudes from the cancerous growth.

well obviously all states are different with emissions, here its if you don't pass you get a couple of months to fix the problem. of whatever is wrong with it,but they don't even test new cars until 2 or 3 years regardless or more.

Anyways like I was saying everyone has their own **** to say like usual which doesn't surprise me.If you seriously want to go catless and you feel the sound is just to loud, put a resonator on it,also 02 simulators even if universal has a higher % of working then it where it wouldn't work at all.

I haven't dynoed it but I would say 2-3 hp since its a much higher flow cat, plus the ss/sc header removes a chunk of metal that is sitting in the way of the flow. If you do end up going that route make sure you get a good seating out of the gaskets, mine leaks somewhere and you can hear it occasionally. Planning on looking at it soon as I return from Afghanistan.
