header options

well we only have two choices right now. you've got the pacesetter and the gmpp, so which one provides the better gains? any specs on either would be appreciated.

GMPP is a manifold thats been honed and extruded and not a true header. Please don't put them on the same level.

I don't think anyone has dyno'd either of these to get an idea vs stock.

I would assume that a true header is going to provide better gains than just an extrude honed exhaust manifold.

Which manifold is it that is extrude honed anyway? Or are all Ecotec exhaust manifolds the same? If the LSJ manifold is different and its an extrude honed LSJ manifold than you might see better gains from it than someone with a 2.4 or 2.0.

the honed manifold fits all the ecotec engines and is a step up i believe for even the lsj, i could be wrong on that last point.

its not installed, its in my trunk, hopefully ill get around to installin it today, it looks very smooth and ive read some decent gains on it, i have stage 2 and the gmpp sport exhaust and jbp intake, even though this may not produce as much as a true header, im sure ill see some gains and not have to worry about fitment, gaskets and all the other stuff that has been talked about here with aftermarket headers, when i get it in ill be goin tio the dyno again to see what it gives me at a 7000 redline hope that helps, good luck with yer choice man.

What part of my post was mean or even off base? Seriously....
I took 47 pics of the manifold, I've installed in on a few cars and I've dyno'd it on mine. So yea, I have technical data to back me up.

in your first post you said the car was stock and you where doing a before and after of the cai. are you saying the lsj comes stock with the gmpp manifold or was that left out of your first post? i'd like to know and if it didnt come stock what where your gains post manifold?

seemed a little snobbish to me. i could have taken it the wrong way but it wasn't even necessary for you to post that.

Chill...he wasn't trying to be rude to you, just telling you the fact.

As far as the high flow cat, Magnaflow sells them for a decent price.

Check out Weapon-R cause they should sell a header for the 2.2

post 25 has the result for the manifold. I gained 4hp and 6ft/lbs tq. A definate increase in torque. Although an increase, not as much as a header. Its known as a 'cheater' manifold since it is the stock one honed and extruded.

Going on gutt instinct I'd agree...I'd assume the manifold on the 2.2 is more restrictive for the sake of noise reduction than that on the 2.0. Unfortunately unless someone has posted pics of both stock parts that I happened to miss I don't see any way of verifying this without installing it .

not difficult....you'll need a lift or jack stands. It should take a little over an hour.

it wouldn't be any different than replacing a cracked manifold on the car. flat rate calls for a little under an hour. Putting a real header on's a lil different though. You almost never get an EXACT fit like you would with a honed manifold. Been there where I honestly have to add an inch of piping on a car for a header to fit right.

I Also Have Extruded manifold .. Did not install it. It is still made of cast is not the best hone job. (Hinces extruded) In no way Can it be compared to a header .
I am taking Mine to my mechanic & he is copying it to make a 4tube short header.
the air Restiction is still there. It is my opion dont waste your money on it very Low gains from it. Not worth the money
