header wrap
header wrap
who has any experience with this? ive heard pros and cons to it. the good is that it helps keep heat in for exhaust scavenging and bad is that also holds moisture in to help create rust. what is you guys input on it
i used to race go-karts, with the 5 hp brigs engines on them, and if we wrapped a cast iron or even a steel header with the wrap after about 100 laps or so the header would literally explode, and it felt as if nitros was added to the fuel...
i would not use it unless it was on stainless and just wondering, why would u really bother with it? i see header wrapping as kinda pointless the header really is not effecting the temperatures of anything

wow that kinda sounds dangerous so i guess im not going to wrap it. well my dad used to drag race and he said he always wrapped htem to keep some of the under hood temps down so i thought bout it for my car but if its not worth it, ill just ditch that idea. thanks guys

If ever you have a problem with the part you will likely be denied a warrenty replacement part.
Most header manufacturers like ZZP don't approve of the use of header wrap
i dont understand what you mean by it will rot the tubes

Condensation can get in between the wrap and the tubes and the wrap will hold it there longer than naturally causing a rotting over a period of time.
That will do absolutely nothing.
I'm assuming you're talking about a alluminum tube'd intake...alluminum doesn't retain heat as great as you might think.
The point of a header wrap is to keep the heat IN, not OUT. Putting it on your intake will be reversing the purpose and it still will ultimately do nothing to benefit you.
It's not that expensive. You have to call them anyways to get a pricing, there isn't a specific set price because it depends on what you're coating.
I've dealt with Jet Hot and they were great with customer service and shipping.
