Headers/Downpipe
I just installed my GMPP Performance Exhaust. I now want to get a new set of headers and downpipe. I own a 2.2L cobalt. Which is the best headers and downpipe to install on my car. i would like anyones opinion.
ok i ask nicely for peoples opinions, and all i get is nothing. Your opinions and good websites would be very great.

lol Easy man. The 2.2 section doesn't exactly jump with activity.
The big question is, where do you want your powerband? The type of header will determine where it is to some degree.

so the vibrant will give me more low end torque. Do you have both vibrant headers and a downpipe? What site did you order this off of so i can look around. Im gonna swap my intake manifold next then look for headers and a downpipe

I got both the header and DP used, so they were pretty cheap. The Header was 130 shipped and the DP was 131 shipped, then the various gaskets were about 30 total. I bought the ARK CEL eliminator for the DP, and so far it has worked, but fitment for it sucked; we had to air hammer parts of the metal under the car to get it to work.

This is something I have also been curious about. Which headers produce the best low to mid range power. I know mostly everything improves either the high end or low end. Whats in the middle ???

With regards to the Vibrant setup, because it is a longtube, it won't bolt up to the stock downpipe. They sell the header and DP together, which will bolt right up to the cat back.

hate to bust your bubble but headers especially longtubes wont give you any low end power headers are a higher rpm performance piece. and the closest you can get to low end power would be shorty headers

So if a shorty header is better for low end torque, does that mean that the GMPP maniflod is even better than a header due to its extremely short 4 to 2 section?

My bubble is just fine. Here is part of a tech article from an exhaust design company:
"When considering a header design, the following points need to be considered:
1) Header primary pipe diameter (also whether constant size or stepped pipes).
2) Primary pipe overall length.
3) Collector package including the number of pipes per collector and the outlet sizing.
4) Megaphone/tailpipe package.
There are many ideas about header pipe sizing. Usually the primary pipe sizing is related to exhaust valve and port size. Header pipe length is dependent on wave tuning (or lack of it). Typically, longer pipes tune for lower r.p.m. power and the shorter pipes favor high r.p.m. power. The collector package is dependent on the number of cylinders, the engine configuration (V-8, inline 6, etc.), firing order and the basic design objectives (interference or independence). The collector outlet size is determined by primary pipe size and exhaust cam timing. "
Don't bother with the GMPP manifold. Get a true header.
