Help ASAP

So i went to the track last night and ran my car a bunch of times and just about at the end of the night the battery light came on and it said check charging system and then on my way home the car died so I'm thinking its the alternator went on it. What do you guys think any other ideas?

you double check and make sure the belt is still on?? Check the connections at the batter and alternator?

I checked everything like ten times all the connections are tight and the belt was on right and i checked the battery and it has 12 volts so its good so i think it has to be the alternator but damn they are expensive and no one has them in stock

i found out what was wrong one of the wires inside the alternator broke off so the guy i took it to fixed it all up and it only cost me $40. And the best i ran was a 16.0 but it was my first time at the track and i couldn't get my 60 fts down to save my life. my best was like a 2.3 but they were mostly in the 2.4 - 2.5 range. Plus when the battery light came on it kinda freaked me out and threw my focus off alot.

With all bolt ons my car did consistent 16.0's with 2.4 60'. I wasn't tuned though, so your car definitely has mid 15's all over it. I say with a 2.2 60' you should be around a 15.6 or 15.5, maybe a little faster. I don't think you're going to be doing it with those 17's though.

Just a suggestion from one auto owner to another.

You're lucky. I'm not 100% on this but, in my case for an LSJ, least here in Wisconsin, you have to get the alternator from GM, its a Dealer direct part, meaning you can only get it from the dealer, you can't get one from any auto store either, for I tried. Mine would of been $645.....I said F*#!@ that. Junk Yard baby $50.... Off a totaled LSJ.

i think we could build a whole new Cobalt out of your garage Joe. All we would need is a rolling shell, haha

Very, very possibly. I do have basically a complete powertrain still, my old shortblock and trans, another complete LSJ with some bad pistons (forged ones are still in my old block), two complete engine harnesses, a PCM, full accessory set, (one A/C, two alt's, two S/Cs), and a thousand leftover bolts, nuts, studs, sensors, clips, all kinds of stuff. Full underbody plastics from an 04 RL and an 06 SS/SC as well There is so much stuff down there it's not even funny, and it all needs to go somewhere now, i'm tired of keeping it.
