Most get stock bore, and just hone the cylinder.

8.9:1 if you are going to turbo/supercharge
10:1 if you plan to run all motor

Easiest way is to pull the motor. If not it might be possible to drop the oil pan and unbolt the rods from the crank. Don't quote me on that as I am not sure it can be done that way. Either way the oil pan is coming off and you're head is coming off.

you can do it with the motor in the car but it's easier to do on an engine stand. and you're going to want a new clutch if you're a manual so you might as well pull the motor. I just did mine and I've never done anything like this but i've been around cars forever my dad has an exhaust shop and does auto repair as well. I did a LOT of researching before I took the motor out.
GMTunerSource.com - ECOtec Build Book - Sport Compact Build Book
GMTunerSource.com - LSJ Build Book - LSJ Build Book
I would start there before you buy any parts.

Yeah OP you got some work to do. You will have to pull the motor, rods, pistons, head studs, head gasket, rod and crank bearings, front and rear main seals, valve cover seals. Then you can just get a kit for the turbo or supercharger to make it simple. If you are manual you will need a new clutch. You are also gonna need some machine work for the crank after you put in new rods. Your looking close to around $5000 for all this.

Not to thread jack but I was looking at the build book and if I'm looking for 250 to 275 whp I only need the pistons and rods? And should I upgrade the valves and/or springs as well? Even though it's really not needed.

You will at least need rods and pistons. The valve stuff isn't required at that point unless you raise your rev limiter.

Yea I saw that the pistons and rods were needed just curious about the valvetrain. And would raising the rev limiter to 7000 require the valvetrain parts?

for 7000 all you would need is some zzp 78# valve springs.
