homemade SRI

hey guys, i was wondering if making my own short ram intake with universal intake piping, maf adapter, and then a k&n would give me the same gains/performance as if i was going to buy k&n's short ram intake. the reason i'm asking, i'd much rather spend around 100 bucks than 239-290 on a k&n typhoon air intake.

People have certainly fabbed their own intakes before, I don't see why you couldn't. Only hard part would be getting it to fit with no leaks around the MAF adapter, I would think.

I have the K&N SRI, and the heat shield they provide is effective/keeps everything in place, but if you think you can fab one up, I wouldn't discourage you either.

seen it done a million times. It works and it works well. pretty much all the parts are at autozone and if you wanna make it look better then get some engine paint and paint it to match whatever theme you got

here's my intake... i am working on building a heat shield to surround the air filter like the K&N has.

i cut out the maf mount from the stock airbox. it has an inner diameter of 3" so it works perfectly with an aftermarket intake. the filter is a spectre filter. the only thing i wish i had was a solid metal elbow going into the throttlebody like the injen intake.

eh man sorry to be the one who throws a flag on this but IMO since your asking i would not try it....companies intakes are expensive because they test them and build them to the proper size and shape for the most gains.....and it is a FACT that an inporperly made intake can decrease horse power now with that being said i run a injen intake and love it but its your car and your horsepower in the end

Cheers

use spectre. Its a decent brand, cheap, and easy to bolt in.
