Question How do I get my cobalt extremely loud?

I currently just have a rACTIVE univeral muffler. How much louder would a cat-back system be compared to just a muffler? I'm kind of also looking for the most economic way to make it louder. Should I just get a set of headers or a different down pipe, or a high flow catalytic converter. Which of those make it louder?

The other night I had the downpipe disconnected on the balt. I started it up, it was REALLY loud, and awful sounding! But hey, it meets your requirements of being loud.

You can't get headers for your car because it does not have headers. It is a 4 cylinder. You can onlsy install 1 header. Cheapest way to make your car rice roud. Remove the exhaust from the downpipe back. Just take it off. Then you will have the Honda sound that you have always dreamed of

Put a honda badge on it upside down

But really if your looking for a cheap way take off everything after the cat but two things are going to happen.

1.) Your car will run like crap due to lack of back pressure

2.) Your car will sound like crap due to welll duh...... no exhaust

P.S. please dont take off your exhaust save some money and get the gmpp performance exhaust, it will be loud and good sounding.

Run a header with an open downpipe with no cat.

If you want an OK sounding exhaust that's real loud:

Run a header with a 3" downpipe with no cat to a custom 3" exhaust with no resonator to a straight through muffler.

There is also the ability to run side exit exhaust in front of the rear driver side wheel.

My XTC b-pipe w/high flow cat made the biggest difference in the sound of my exhaust. It's much louder, rattles a bit at WOT and changed the tone from a deep throaty tone to a raspier, albiet more responsive one. One without the cat would be even louder.

As a side benefit (lol) it gives excellent performance gains when coupled with header (which did not increase sound much) and cat-back. A sport version of a cat-back will be significantly louder than a touring version, especially when coupled with the b-pipe. However it will not increase performance any. More noise does not always = more performance.

Do you hate your neighbors, or what? How about one of those whistling devices they are putting in the tailpipes? Or a horn that plays "Cucarracha"?

what do you have? 2.2, 2.4, or 2.0???
cheapest way to make it very loud would be to remove the cat and run a striaght pipe in between. You could buy a down pipe, but if your cheap, you can get a muffler shop to weld a piece of pipe in between....and you already have a fart can.....next, to get the engine screaming....buy an intake or if you can depending on which model, you can do a airbox mod.

If this is not loud enough for you, then sell yor car, buy a early 90s civic or crx, put a fart can on it and you will have the loudest car in town.....
It won't be as loud as my truck was when I had open headers though....

^^^ That's no joke actually. Used to have an unbranded eBay muffler on my '90 Corolla years ago when I was still a n00b . 2.5" core diameter muffler welded to stock 1-7/8" (oy maybe it was 1-5/8"...) pipe, no other mods. Loud... as... *****.

I just hope you don't have to do any highway driving... having that constant retarded drone for an extended period of time WILL **** you off... plus you'd be lucky if you could still hear the radio... and having to shout as loud as you can to talk to other people in the car, not cool.

Spend ALL your money on the biggest, most bad-ass sound system made. Say a million watts and at least 10 12" sub-woofers. Put a microphone beside the stock exhaust pipe. run it through the stereo. Keep all the windows closed. Crank it up until your ears bleed. Adjust the frequency equalizer to the desired tone (deep and boomy, ricer-raspy - anything you want).

This way, you get the maximum effect - and the rest of us don't have to deal with it.

buy a whole bunch of explosives...load up the trunk, cabin, engine bay, exhaust pipe, behind the side mirrors and light the fuse while driving down a deserted highway

Guys i know ya'll had fun with this post but i don't think he was looking for the kind of suggestions. because obviously if he's thinking header, Downpipe , and cat he's thinking more performance type sound . I think he gets the point that it'll be loud without the exhaust . IMO

That is the best idea I have ever heard. I wish all those idiots with fart cans would do this.
