installing intake, remapping ???

I remember readin that after you put an intake in (i think) you should disconnect the negative wire from your battery and then reconnect it and start it and the car will automatically adjust to the filter... or something like that, would like to know because i installed an intake and didn't do any of this

true or BS?

It adjusts either way. Unplugging the battery doesn't accelerate the computer's learning of its airflow sensor corrections.

Which, generally, is all types of engine work.

Usually you have to unplug something.

its really about safety cuz you really dont want to short out anything that your working on and the dealer wont help you. second of all the car is smart but were really smarter becuase it will learn when you put new parts in that change the fuel map but be careful becuase your map sensor might get ruined and have the dealer ship tell you that they wont cover it since its a performance part that caused the malfunction trust me

It is about safety, but the ECM on the Cobalt learns as you drive. If you change something it will relearn your driving habits over time. You can speed this up by erasing the DTCs (even if there aren't any) so that the learn values start at the baseline. Disconnecting the battery doesn't do this because the ECM supposedly has an internal power supply. Even the factory service manual states to erase the DTCs -- but it doesn't state to do it by disconnecting the battery.
