Intake Manifold Gasket (SC Question)

So I have my build done for little over a year now and never got the idle issue figured out with Trifecta. So my buddy and myself are tearing it down again check everything out.

My question to those whom are SC'd is what did you guys do to the intake manifold gasket in regards to the PCV?

I am having excessive blow-by on the valve cover breather.

Thanks in advanced.

I just recently did my sc swap and I didn't cut the gasket for the PCV. I was told that as long as you have the PCV line from the valve cover to the intake that it'll be good. I was worried about that myself cause I was unsure if I should cut the gasket or not. But on mine it doesn't seem to have any negative effects so far.

Btw, what kind of idle issues are you having and what size injectors and pulley?

the pcv in the s/c IM has a one way valve. If I were you I would make sure it is functional but to do that, you have to have the corresponding port in the head, which you may not. Then you need to figure out a way to dump dirty crank case blowby air into the inlet somehow...I am guessing. I have not given it any real thought, need to figure out how the 2.2 does its pcv. The early 2.2 03 on cavvys through 05 that I know have had a lot of moisture buildup in the rocker cover dipstick tube and cap, and the oil fill cap itself is vented which in the s/c LSJ is not not.

ask zzp they probably know this answer.

We have a corresponding hole in the head, it's just about 1/2" over on our head from the port on the LSJ manifold. So to allow some ventilation you would have to cut the manifold gasket but even then, the ventilation space is only as wide as a compressed gasket. May be better then not having it opened at all.

This thread though has givens renewed worry because I too am having idle issues, and I'm trifecta tuned with 60s and a 3.1 pulley.

everyone has idle issues with 60's thats a 2.2. i think the only reason i didnt was because i was on e85 and not pump gas.

even a few turbo guys i know had idle issues with the 2.2's on 60's

EDIT: almost everyone of the 2.2's on 60's that are trifecta tuned.

That's what I was thinking too. Seems to be a lot of that with Trifecta and these setups. I got them cause I planned on building and running a 2.9-2.8 and maybe nitrous but I feel I would have been better off going with 42s instead. As long as Vince can lean me out somewhat I'll be fine. I'm just tired of burning gas so bad.

i wouldnt do nitrous if it were me. i blew a head gasket on mine with a 3.1 and e85 pushing 13 lbs

i have a stock set of LSJ injectors just laying around here if you want them. not plug and play. but there a lil bigger than the stock 2.2 and you could have them for like 10$ lol comes with harness too.

not sure if they will support your setup or not tho. so id ask around. but just PM me if you want them. they work. i just dont have a use for em and theyve just been layin on my desk takin up space

Sorry for the late reply all.

So we cut the gasket to have the opening for the PCV. We also put new autolite XP copper 1 step colder plugs in again. I also did my oil change while the blower was off, went with Mobil1 0W-30. Started her up and the idle sucked still like always.

Then we took the TB off which I got off a member here that was powder coated, went with another stock LSJ that was normal, no powder coating. It started to idle finally! After about a year and 4 months lol.

I still don't trust the car to idle while in traffic, but in neighborhoods and such its awesome. Plus that also solved my vacuum issue.

PS: I am running stock pulley with 80s that way I can go E85. Put I didn't do it since I've had an idle problem for the longest time.

Would a fuel pressure regulator help out some on being rich when running 60s?

No.You would need a return style setup. If your running rich on 60's you need to retune.

Well I'm not dialed in completely just yet on the tune. Just tuned well enough to be drivable.

i ran e85 on 60's with a gms2 pully(3.1 inch) and i didnt have any issues giving the car enough fuel.

Yeah Im running 30% E85 right now with 60's on a 2.9.I'll be doing E47 on the same setup via HPT.I'll get all the timing properties of full E,but better gas mileage than full E.
