just watched tuner transformation...

they modded a chevy cobalt 2.2. it was sick, except the vinyl and whatnot. they put all gm high performance parts into the engine and then put a turbo on it at 14 psi. it put out 240 hp and 280 ft pounds of torque. i really like those numbers, especially the hp-tq ratio.

who else saw this tv show? it was on the SPEED channel

Jack really praised the platforms capabilities. He loved it... , so much that it seemed like he was a paid spokesperson for GM.

i thought it waa weird that the did jin's car. I mean, he got it for free and then had it souped up for free, i hate him now.

haha. that guy annoyed me cause he was like, FREAKIN this FREAKIN that. meanwhile i'm like, just shut the f**k up. and that rapper guy didn't seem to appreciate it very much when they showed him it. whatever. i was more interested in what they were doing to the car in terms of performance. and what they did got me excited, so it's all good.

yeah Jin seemed to only care about the system...I was all about the Ecotec parts though. I wonder what that Hahn kit puts down on a stock bottom end?

Graphics and front splitter could have been left behind but the rest was clean...I liked the kit.

well, look at it this way. instead of putting a massive pointless wing on the back, they put a functional wing on the front. except... it still looks retarded because it's not a race car.

i agree that the graphics and front wing splitter thing should be left behind. i would have painted it flat black. and they left the interior a little bit too stock for my taste. i would have changed the streering wheel to a performance steering wheel. and throw in a short throw shifter, because i don't think they did. but the interios just didn't seem to match the rest of the car for the most part.

my friend told me about a another show on SPEED last month where they were modding an SS a jetta and a skyline gtr. i saw one episode where they took off the blower and putting in performance parts. i think they were trying to turn them into racecars... but that was the only episode i saw.

It was great that they did all this stuff to the cobalt and exposed so many people to its potential and quality but I would have liked to known more about the Turbo setup, they never mentioned any ECM tuning and it clearly recieved some, even if it was a piggyback I would have liked to have known, I mean **** they used to tell you if they tuned it on the 1/2 hour episodes, they do a full hour and spend more time bullshitting about partying, and the application of the dragon decals than on the single mod that actually made that car such badass.

I watched that show. NICE CAR, minus the decals. and the shifter. but pretty "freaking" sweet. hehe. I wish they would have given a bit more on the technical end also.
I wish they would have turned up the boost a bit to see what it would do..

turned it up, wasn't it already at 14psi?

I wondered what they were doing for tuning as well...

And the interior...looks like they threw in some racing seats, guage faces, and a dvd flip screen.

They had already dumped an assload of money into that car though...I wouldn't complain if it was mine but for a show car it could've used more tickering.

yah. 14 psi isn't that much like to see what it would at 23 lbs or so. prolly put him at right around 300 - 310, maybe over.

i went to hahnracecraft.com and there was no info on the turbo but when i called them the guy i talked to sounded like they were looking for more interested people to buy the kit before they really released it so we all need to inquire about it.

Two things -

If you ask NICELY, I'll record it with my ATI All In Wonder 9600XT video card from my Direct TV tuner. I recorded the Overhaulin episode with the Civic in it already.

The other show you speak of is Street Tuner Challenge.

ABD in Riverside CA is the Jetta Team using a brand new 2005 Jetta GLS 1.8T

XS Engineering in I believe Torrance, CA is building an R32 Nissan Skyline GT-S, NOT GT-R.

and finally I'm not totally sure which shop is involved but my guess would be SoCal Speed Shops has the Cobalt SS Supercharged car.

The challenge is to lap Buttonwillow road course (I think) in the fastest time. In otherwords Time Attack. Is supposed be hosted by Sport Compact Car and Super Street Magazine, along with this show.

In part 2, the engine for the Cobalt has already returned back to California for installation in the car. They have already installed a road racing roll cage and Quafie LSD in the car up to now.

I record that on the DTivo but I can also get it on my capture card.

If the board is interested in both series, let me know and I can tape them all and host them for downloading.

Seems the Cobalt is everywhere -

Tuner Transformation and Street Tuner Challange so far with more to come I'm sure as the media blitz continues.
