L61 to LSj Head swap.. worth it, or big headaches?

So, the tldr on this is as follows

-Bought a Brand new in box LSJ head last sum turn down.
-Researching what cams are in my current built motor has given myself and ZZP a sad.
-Considering building a new head, if not a new motor for Super Lap Battle 2016 or 2017 (Depends on funds)
- Can I build the LSJ head and put it on my 06 L61 without too many headaches? Or will this be a nightmare?

I am already concerned about ignition, since the 06's have the one big coilpack and the LSJ's had the 4 small ones.....

Should I just pull, clean, and port my other L61 head laying around here and rebuild it?

Looking for good input on this before we pull the trigger.

Thanks guys

From what ive seen, your style l61 head and the lsj are pretty interchangeable. I know of at least one person who had a full lsj motor in his cavi running stock cavi ignition components.

I'm no expert on frankestien engines but I think it would be worth it. The lsj head flows decently, you have more options for cams, plus you'd be able to run zpp's new ignition coils which are proving to be pretty damn fantastic.

Also here's a thread comparing the two, might help you out someLSJ vs L61 head PICTURES - Performance Forum - j-body.org - The J-Body Organization

you wouldnt be able to run zzps ignition coils because the L61 uses its ignition box as the cam sensor.

the heads flow about the same and you can port an l61 head to flow whatever you want

for cams, the early l61 cams and lsj cams are interchangeable

The benefit of the lsj head is not that it has better flow (because its about the same stock for stock), but that it is stronger. The l61 head was supposedly weak above cyl 1 and 4, and failed at high hp. The lsj head added reinforcement to correct this issue, and is an overall stronger casting.

To swap on the stock head for a performance gain would be silly. For your power levels I wouldn't bother. My vote is to port a l61 head, unless you see another benefit to the lsj head.

Its more that i just have it here. Heh. I also have another L61 head i could easily clean up, port and do the same thing with. We are looking for around 300 whp for the time attack car. for now. maybe more down the road.
