Unsafe to you and others on the road, and your car, if they break.

Other than that, nothing.

Agreed. People should have to pass a car iq before being allowed to post. Anyone who fails will be refered to a special section where they can be ignorant together.

People should have to have a minimum IQ. I'm at 146 so like 120 and up would be good.

i have the sportlines and love em but i wouldn't cut them at all they're fine the way they are and besides any lower and your exhaust might hit when you hit a bump.

Chip is more designer though. Cutting springs has always been a bad idea. Especially if done with anything that can heat up the spring enough to change it. In that episode there might not of been any better options or he might have been pressed for time or on a bit of a budget! Any true car guy would either run coil overs or custom springs. Show me 1 race team thats professional running cut springs and I will retract my statement.

So to the op cutting the springs is just generally a bad idea. And chances are the ride would get choppy youd bottom out more and risk damage to other components or at minimum would be looking as much accelerated shock and strut wear.

I agree 100% about cutting springs, im just saying that most guys on here have no clue WHY cutting them is bad. They just heard it from someone else.

Yeah Mike, cutting springs is VERY dangerous. When you cut springs, you increase the spring rate.

I saw somewhere, that if you cut them, you clamp 2 rings of the spring at the top so it looks just like the stock spring. I'll find it somewhere.

Here ya go!

Look at the spring at the top, it's clamped. But even this is very unsafe. The spring itself was not made to do that. You'll bust a bunch of **** up. In the long run, it'll be cheaper just to buy a set of lowering springs. They are made to be that small

Also another side note, your spring will not be able to cover the distance from the bottom of the strut to the top if it's cut, maybe while it on the ground yes, bu u ever Jack up a car on cut springs? Now apply that to normal driving when u go over a small hill and catch a split second of air time, the spring could unseat itself from the strut...bottom line, don't cut it...

Ps typing on phone so **** maybe misspelled and it may hav edited some words to **** my grammar up

He isnt a car God. Atleast Boyd Coddington built cars from scratch, he didnt just restomod them.

Why dont you sit Foose down and ask him some race oriented questions, he would be speechless. He is a show car guy.
