My Car is Leased, and That Sucks!

Ok well I know I'm definately not the only one who's Cobalt is leased. I got mine as a gift and didn't have the option of whether to buy or lease, which is still awesome because I got my Cobalt for free, but what my question is, is it worth it to add stuff when I'm just going to have to return it in 4 years or should I do what I want without voiding the warranty and then return it to stock? I don't know what to do! Help me out here please...

id just turn it in after the lease and get the SS/SC ull be a lot happier with it...it comes already souped up with a high performance suspention, brakes, etc...its a smarter move IMO.

My car's leased but the difference is that i will be buying out my car at the end of 4 years. As for modding come spring stage 2 E/H/I.

I am buying mine out also
don't give them the pleasure of turning around and selling your car for 3k more as a GM used certified vehicle

Well in that case I'll tell you why I asked. Someone offered me a Brand New Garrett GT3071R for cheap because he bought it for his VW and decided to go a little smaller and make a small twin turbo setup instead of single larger turbo. Here's a link to tell you the specs on Garretts site

Obviously there would be a lot of R&D involved because everyone who makes an ecotec kit uses a smaller turbo. But if I could get it for cheaper and make my own setup for cheaper than a Hahn or any other kit I'd be down. Let me know what you think.

well, you would have to pick an intercooler, also have a performance shop make custom intercooler piping, add oil lines, get some kinf of engine management system, trust me, using that turbo will make the turbo project more expensive , a kit will be cheaper

If you guys are buying after the lease then why didn't you just buy the damn thing form the beginning? You are wasting so much money!

Everything that you have brought up can be fabricated yourself or purchased online. If you have to pay someone to make everything for you then you shouldn't be trying to piece together a custom kit.

^^^ This is my plan exactly. I'm just hoping that GM/dealership doesn't give me a hard time getting Stage 2 on a leased car.

There are two reasons I chose to lease and buy. First, I got an '05, it's the first model year and it was anyone's guess as to how reliable this car could be. With a lease, if the car turns out to be a lemon I just walk away from it when the lease (and warrentee) are up. Second, with $8500 down (including trade) my payments for purchase would have been just over $600. With that same down payment my lease payements are just over $200. I will easily have the money to buy the car out in three years - just didn't have it at the time I got the car. All in all leasing over straight out buying is going to cost me around $1000 more - not too bad.

My lease and buyout with taxes is cheaper than just buying it cash. So why finance? Only thing is you cant seel it until you buy it out. Good thing is if you have a major accident you can just give it back to them and get a fresh one. In my case i can buy it out for 14 900 with taxes and probably sell it for 17 000 with rims and mods. So I am happy.

actually there not wasting money cuz lets see here. usually leasing payments are close to $220 n lower. considering my payments are close to $300. and when their lease is up the value of the car is alot lower. for instance if the car was 17000 to begin with and your over the 2 year lease with 16000 miles. that cobalt is gunna be worth like close to 9-10. so really their not wasting money at all.

plus you can also save money

I Wouldnt Mod It Because It Would Be A Waste Of Money Unless You Bought It After The Lease

I modding my leased SS as if I bought it . I was upside down in my prior SSEi and I would WAAAAAAAY more upside down in the SS if a bought it outright . For me leasing stopped the cycle of being upside down . I ate the higher payment due to rollover balance from my SSEi , but when the lease is up , I owe $0 . Also , the lease payment was lower from the get go , so even after rolling over my balance to the lease my payment is about the same as someone financing one for 5 years with no money down. If I bought and rolled over the balance , my payment woulda been over $500 a month and I would be constantly upside down in the cobalt too . Plus I was able to buy gap insurance with the lease too .

I will most likely buy mine to sell it when the term is up . My residual is only $11,100 on a 3.5 yr lease term . Well see , GM is very typical to send you a pull ahead get outa lease free card about 1/2 way to 3/4 of the way thru your term . Only applies to purchasing another new car , lease or buy thru GMAC .....the new Camaro will be out by then
