Question mystery engine light

I was out last night in a freak snow storm, happen to glance down and see my CEL light pop on. It came on, stayed on, and hasn't gone out. I'm at a loss. It's not in limp mode, everything is running perusual, my gas cap is tight, engine is idiling fine.

The only 2 things I can think of that might trip be at fault is a dirty air filter or my fuel. I checked my air filter(stock air box type), not overly dirty, but I'll pick one up off my next pay.

The only other thing I can think of is that I got gas at a different station then usual and maybe that station uses different additives then my usual station??

Should I try re-setting the code by pulling the battery wire? I don't have the 50 bucks to get it read right now, any thoughts?

Take it to an auto zone? Or the canadian equivalent to have the code scanned for free?

You can try adding a fuel injector cleaner to your next fill up sometimes it will turn the light off on occasion even though it doesnt actually fix anything it helps in keeping the engine as clean as possible. Or you could just replace the pre-cat 02 sensor. How many kilometers or miles do you have on the car?

Get us that code and we'll tell you what it is. Surely someone up there scans for free, it's common practice.

dunno, but it went out. I have 72,600km's on it and it's an 06 g5. I'm thinking it was a combo of gas cap and the last place I got fuel, having shitty fuel. We shall see.

your 5spd right? check to see if your cruise control works if it doesnt engage its your clutch position sensor. wont cause any issues just not cruise control.

I have had to replace my thermostat quiet a few times... sounds like with the cold weather it could be a faulty thermostat.

cruise control works, now that thermostat wouldn't surprise me at all, cause it takes for ever for me to get heat, even when the car is warmed up and display is saying 95-110C. And yes it's a 5spd.

I'm going to track down someone with a code reader cause the cheapest place I can find to read the code is 50bucks+taxes. I damn near **** when I called the dealer and they wanted $50 to start+min of 1/2 hr = minimum of $85+taxes just to plug in the reader.

There has to be a place around here that will pull my code for free.

50 bucks for a code read? That's beyond lame. My S10 threw a code last week so I just went to Autozone to borrow one. All I had to do was put down a deposit. Its too bad Canadian Tire won't do something like that... they're big enough, sheesh. (Damn I miss Nova Scotia.)

car ran fine and what not.
last i had the car running the cel light was on too but thats cause of the home made cai.
my wintr beater has had the cell light on now for 5 yrs lol
