new exhaust

So you guys all know, my dynomax muffler sucks. Sounds pretty nice but looks like hell. So that being said I'm doing a new exhaust soon. I dont really have the cash to get a cat back so I had an idea. Someone mentioned in another thread about removing the stock resonator and replacing it with a cherry bomb and attaching a muffler right after that to do a side exit exhaust, what if I did the resonator swap and put a dual outlet muffler shortly after the res, and have two pipes run out with tips on the ends, either side exit or rear. (or a single outlet muffler to a Y pipe) Which way would be better?

Like I said, I don't really have the cash to go drop on a cat back, not one worth buying at least.
