i think there is a sensor on the cat so you cant completly lose it!! unless you want a CEL on all the time and the place wouldn't let me take the cat off

yes, it's very possible. and it will sound like absolute ****. you will get a very, very minimal increase in flow and in my opinion absolutely not worth it for a daily driven cobalt unless you want the car to sound as bad as possible.

You can run catless with no cel if you get "o2 sensor simulators". It is illegal in all states and it is a felony for a shop to remove emissions-related things for you. If you do it yourself which is not hard to do at all, it is legal until you touch pavement. Then you just cant get caught, NC is an emissions state and it isnt hard at all to get around the laws here.

Oh and the valves... LMMFAO, kinda like V-TAK being just for show. CTE's like Hondas, Nissans, and Mitsubishis can Bend valves if the teeth on the timing belt slip and the piston slams into the valves, but you wont. Our timing belts slip and the engine either runs like **** or wont run at all with no valve or piston damage.

we don't have timing belts, its a timing chain with tensioner system.

timing chain with tensioner system Seconded.....

Leave the cats, If you do header dp later get dp with high flow cats, but you will need to be putting more air in to benefit from more air out....

on an LS, it would be a lot of noise, legal issues, and rigging for a small amount of power.

not worth the gain, the gain is very minimal, i think i saw a magazine cover this at one point, the over all diffrence from a high flow cat is minimal, i think straight pipe dyno'd 1hp more than the high flow

Word, same here. I have a CA header, XTC 2.5" de-cat downpipe and an ARK N2 cat-back, and I love the way it sounds. Very loud all the time, and somewhat raspy in the higher RPMs. I've gotten nothing but compliments on the way it sounds though, even from fellow Cobalt owners at the several past meets ive been to. So I guess im not the only one that likes the way a cat-less car sounds. My friends H22 swapped EK hatch, my roomates STI, and my former neighbor's '07 Focus all are cat-less too. Thats just how we roll.
