possible honda influence?
lol well now that gm has a global platform like honda's B series engines. it would be interesting to see a 2.2 block w/ 2.4 head? wonder what that would yield in performance if any. i know its pointless but it would be interesting to see. you have 2.2 w/ vtec. possibly the 2.4 head flows more so you'll gain vtec along with more flowing capabilities. hmmm. just wish gm introduced the ecotec engines back in 95. for th cavaliers, 3rd gen. z24 having 2.4 and others having 2.2. that would have given honda a run for its money

uummm..... they did(performance wise at least)......the only engines honda put in compacts(before the k series) that can touch a z or SFGT are the B16(ten more hp - on paper, in a car that is 200lbs lighter and still driver's race), 17 and 18, and H22 - H23 is drivers race in the accord coupe(not sure on the prelude though..). honda motors are better all around, I know; gas mileage, refinement and reliability are a hugh inprovement.
what GM should've done, back in '96, was develop a HO version of the 2.4, like they did the old 2.3 quad four(that beast made 180 hp, 190 in W41 trim, back in 89) and put it into special cavs and fires; if nothing else, it would be quick, and would've brought the 2.4 eco here sooner and with more power.

It would of been smart of GM to develop something similar in that of a Universal engine, but remember that GM was more set on even competing with the japanese lineups when it came to american 4 cylinders. Also I think GM, at least in the 90's was more set on its truck and V8 power car market, but with compacts gaining speed these days and more money coming from their purchasers, I think they are heading in the right direction now.
