Smile Question about When Tuning is Needed..

Hay Guys,

Got a some questions that I could not easily find the answers too..
Under what circumstances when modding is tuning required?
.. I have a 2007 2.2L Cobalt and was thinking about doing Intake, GMPP Extruded Honed Header, GMPP Exhaust.. as my first (REAL) mods with Halos already on and tint.. Will I need tuning or would it just be preferred?.. What kinds of gains could i expect from these power-free-ers?..
I know that 2.2L's do not have all the tuning stuff worked out so just wanted to know..
Another thing I was also thinking of upgrading(Forged) the pistons(rings, wrist pins) and Rods(LSJ 2.0L ones), for preping for a 50-55 shot of Nitrous Oxide ZEX "Wet" System..what kinds of gains would I see with just the Pistons and Rod upgrade.. Would this be enough or would I have to upgrade the Intake Mani also..?...
I have read up on supporting mods like headgasket upgrade, bolts, and valve springs and retainers later down the road.. what kinds of gains could I see from this HP and TQ wise over-all..? And are they really necessary..?
Went appearance with the Halos and Tint now looking for Engine and Performance..

thanks guys sry for the long post..

Currently, there is no tuning out for the 2.2 cobalts unless you use a SAFC. HPTuners has talked of being able to support the '07 2.2 (which luckily is your year) but nothing to my knowledge is released

To answer your question, tuning helps from stock, which you can tune for a lil more power or for economy. But is not needed with bolt-ons really. You won't see enough of a change for it to be required. F/I will need tuning with out a doubt.

Tuning with just bolt ons might give you a little egde, but its far from necessary. Maybe someday tuning sans a standalone will exist someday.

Ok so from what I am getting so far a A/F Meter is a good thing the Intake,Header,Exhaust is a good thing then get the 50 shot "Wet" with "WOT switch and Window Switch/RPMs and safetys" and the Swap for the 2.4L Mani would not hurt either.. Add up a couple dyno charts and pics for you guys and jobs done!...?

worry about tuning later..

75-85 shot should be OK from what I've read.
