Rev limiter

Hello all. I am going to to be tuned within the next week or so, and I am wondering what i should raise the rev limiter to?

Mods= K&N SRI, 2.4 TB, 2.4 IM, RS shorty header, LSJ DP, Corsa sport 2.5 inch exhaust.

I am thinking 7000 maybe 7200

i guess that really depends on how you drive your car...

you have to remember that raising the rev limiter wont necessarily make you faster as your power does peak at some point and most likely with the ecotec it will make you slower (check your dyno graph)

7000 is a safe point to set it at, 7200 is getting pretty iffy without an upgraded valvetrain.

i would check the dyno and if your power drops at a certain point before your current redline than you need to keep the one you have and if it doesnt peter out up top then i would go with a 7000 til you invest in some valves and valve springs.

Well just because i have a 7200 rev limiter, doesn't mean i am going to hit it. Its very rare for me to hit the 6.5K as it is. I just want to have it available in case it is still pulling at that rpm. I plan on getting a dyno. But I cant before the tune, because of the TB. Also I am pretty sure the high RPMs are where I am going to make power.

So it will be ok to do 7200, or is it completely unnecessary?

Not to steal your thread but do you think the internals (like rods) can handle that many revs under boost? I'm not to sure about the "toothpick" rods.

i dont think its neccessary. Imposible to say without a dyno though. Even if you do raise it, i'm personally pretty conservative, and would recommend springs. . . and since you gotta take the cams out to do them, may as well do those too.

oh and lwpmon i didnt know there were other boosted 2.2's in colorado. id like to check out your setup sometime.

i set a 7600 on a G5 stock

so far so good. first and second gear it take it accordint to him

R&D I did with him.

so if you set it a 7300 and hit your RL is bad. but set it at 7600 you wont hit at 7321 rpm. this is a safety point.

Ok so what about 7200? Would I need valves cams and/or springs to do so safely?

Nope, you should be fine at 7250.

Im pretty sure 7400 is fine. Its just a waste if the power starts falling off 600 rpms before cutoff.

what you just said makes no sense haha

i wouldnt push things too far cause if you smack that rev limiter doing something stupid you may get high enough to float..
