Slight Inspiration...

both these 2.2l ecotecs were running low 7's... sure its slightly unrealistic but at the same time its nice to see people are using our 2.2 and not the 2.0 or 2.4.

the top picture was a drag car that put down a 6.5 as their best time at NOPI Rockingham.

even the chevy race enigines are 2.2's the only reason the ss is a 2.0 is so it can rev quicker chevy still lives by the bigger it is the more it can make theory and before you ask why not the 2.4 try and find any drag cars using any type of vvt on the engines i their always high in the rpm range so what the point in making the cams work at low rpms

Ummm...sorry to burst your bubble but do a little research. Most, if not all, of the GM race Ecos are 2.0L. Those are both CLEARLY 2.0L motors...just look at the head and valve covers. The 2.0 covers are more squared edges than rounded like the 2.2L and the head and block don't look as porous and they have the cross-hatched pattern on them. Again sorry to burst your bubble. The cars are disguistingly fast though. I got to be on the line for all of the GM Race Team runs at the 05 NOPI NDRA World Finals and I'll be there racing and watching them set records again.

Go look them up. I got to sit in the pits between rounds, go up to the line with the teams, and celebrate the first 7 second FWD run in NOPI history with them last year. Every motor is 2.0L using the 2.0L head and 2.2L block. You decide what that makes them but they are run at 2.0L so they can rev higher.

*edit*Unless they COMPLETELY changed things in a year they are 2.0L. i doubt they would give up all the info they had and the times and power they made for .2L

Well I'll be damned. Either they changed everything around for 06 or the boogers decided to change the listing style. someone go check the rules...see if they started penalizing the 2.0 too heavily LOL. I know for a fact that the 3 at the World Finals last year were running 2.0L motors.

Either way those are definately LSJ heads and cam covers. So that's truely a hybrid-Eco I like what I see!

i think they go by block, not head displacement. Hence, the 2.2. You said yourself that they use 2.2l blocks.

Yes they use the 2.2L block because it supposedly has better oiling abilities off the line. Although if I had my choice I'd choose the 2.0L block just because it's made using a better casting method.

I think they use the actual displacement of the motor now because so many teams are using lower displacement so they can rev higher safer.

I'm gonna have to make a few calls. I gotta see why they changed to 2.2L. I'm looking at the rulebook and it doesn't look like they were penalizing the 2.0L too much more than last year. This has me entrigued now.

Like I said...you can tell visually that they are using the 2.0L head. The thing looks completely different. Although I've yet to see any proof that it flows better than the stock 2.2L head or the Patriot Performance head and justify it as a swap...but it is intriguing.

They were probably originally 2.2L motors and then they de-stroked it by switching the crankshafts, lowering the displacement to 2.0L. That's what they were doing before the 2.0 Motors were ever in production (I think I remember as far back as 2002).

That's what I remembered too but why would GM start listing them as 2.2L motors this year when they called them 2.0L last year?
