So I'm getting a FREE Turbo and Intercoler

I work with a guy that is building up his 97' eclipse. He's putting on a bigger turbo, intercooler, etc. and said that if I want the old stuff I can have it. I'm not gonna bother everyone with how-to questions because I know I have a **** load of research to do before I even start buying parts. Just thought I'd brag a little bit haha. In all honesty though, I don't even know if it's worth trying to make it work, but it'll be fun to figure it out.

Make sure that turbo isn't a piece of junk before you decide to put it on, it could be disastrous.

I'm gonna take it in and get it rebuilt at a shop in a neighboring city. It's not junk, just needs about $100 worth of work. Still less than buying a new one. And I'm definitely not gonna start hacking and welding away on my car until I have everything planned out

oh, and I believe it's the stock Garrett T-25. I'll get back to you tomorrow with as much info as I can. Like I said, lots of research to do

If you decide to do this, best of luck.

But honestly, that T-25 is just about as useful as a hairdryer. If you're going to spend the time and effort, for another $100 you can find AT LEAST a 14B or small 16g someone is selling. Check out the DSM boards for those parts:

DSMTuners
DSMTrader
DSMTalk

DSM parts are cheap and abundant. This is how I can afford to have a new Cobalt SS and a ~400whp weekend car

what's it say on the compressor side of the turbo? I could tell u about how much power that thing will produce.

I agree about the dsm turbo's. I've been looking into a EvoIII 16g turbo. good for about 400whp and only about 600 new. just make sure u know how much power your going to make at Xpsi. if u can get me that info I could help you out. you don't want to push that motor too much stock.

good luck, please let me/us know if you have other questions or need help. I've turbo'ed my car, blew the engine, and built a forged engine. I don't regret one minute of it either. just work it slow and try to do all the work yourself and you won't end up like I did

stock 14b's sell for 100 in good condition on dsm tuners, the side mount intercooler sells for 45 shipped on dsmtuners, the turbo is most likely a s 14b, if its a older first gen it might be the 13, i doubt its the 16g as that one is good for 400whp

Actually the 13g's ONLY came on first gen turbo eclipse/talon's that were automatic. The manual transmission 1st gen turbo eclipse/talon's came with 14b's. The 2nd gen turbo eclipse/talon's came with the t-25. And you're right, there's no way the kid would donate a 16g when he could net a couple hundred bucks from it. T-25's and 14B's are given away all the time as they sell for < $100.

its not free, because you have to rebuilt it, then pay for all the parts and labour to install it

then within a few months when it wtfexlpodes you will be paying alot more then just buying a good new/slighty used turbo.

Like I said before, I'm not gonna do anything until I map everything out. I'm not just gonna be like "hey, a turbo! chop, weld, chop some more, ok I'm done!" It's just somewhere to start and I might not even end up doing anything at all. And I am looking into other turbos and weighing out costs.

Some pictures for you. I know it's small (insert that's what she said joke), but it's enough to blow up my engine and that's plenty for me.
