Speed Limiter

What is the speed limiter for the 2.2?

We raced a stock looking cobalt today while test driving a 98 prelude SH, he stomped the **** out of it. We ran it up to 120 and he still pulled.

So I dont know what he could have had under the hood, probably nothing, but he had the stock exhaust, stock steelie rims, and stock ride height, so I doubt he should have been going as fast as he was.

Certain packages had no speed limiters. Tuning also removes them.

As stock as it was it leads me to believe he had nothing under the hood. but there is no way of knowing what year it was, other than the 2.2.

Depending on the year and trim package the stock limiter was either ~105 or ~120. Mine pulls until 107 but all years can tune it out thanks to Trifecta. Also something odd to take into account, mine bypasses the speed limiter when in cruise and tapping the accel button. I have burried the needle on a few occasions doing this. My friend's LS with the ~120 limiter doesnt bypass it in cruise. Only differences between ours is that his is a manual and mine is an auto.

Those with the upgraded tires limit around 120 and with the cheap tires around 107. I think the drag limit is around 125 assuming no mods.

I never heard of working around the limiter by using the cruise before.

Or maybe the prelude's spedo was way off...

Eh, well at least you guys know you can beat stock prelude's. 120 was his max, We were going 120, and he stopped pulling, so I guess thats where its at. Seems REALLY high for a stock econobalt. I would be leery about it in my cavalier, and I have $1000 in my suspension.

i know that on 06 base balts it was completely dependent on what tires were on from the factory.

LTs with proper rims, not hubbys were set at 119

130MPH on stock speedo.
Hit a confirmed GPS speed of 125MPH.
And yes, that was when I was completely stock.

when my car was completely stock i got it to 115 but ran out of road but still pulling...the other day i tried it (not stock) it only went to 108 and what seemed to govern out. i was around 3500RPM so i know it had more pull but when i stepped on the gas it was like i was hitting the rev limiter (i have an auto) any comments on why this happened?
